Chilling Adventures of Sabrina showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa wants the shows to crossover with Riverdale. He's not the only one either, many fans assumed the shows would overlap, much like the CW's Arrowverse, since they are both adapted from Archie Comics and were originally set to air on the CW. Eventually, Sabrina was moved to Netflix, ending some of these discussions for the time being.
Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is an adaption of the comic of the same name written by Aguirre-Sacasa with art by Robert Hack. It's a dark and twisted drama which tells the story of Sabrina Spellman (Kiernan Shipka), a girl who is half human and half witch. On her 16th birthday she must decide if she should forsake the mortal world and embrace her powers. This would mean giving up her human boyfriend Harvey Kinkle (Ross Lynch) and her friends Rosalind (Jaz Sinclair) and Susie (Lachlan Watson). She is torn between her love for them and her aunts, the devious Miranda Otto (Aunt Zelda) and more kindly Lucy Davis (Aunt Hilda).

Aguirre-Sacasa revealed that the plan was originally to have Sabrina appear at the end of Riverdale season 1 to serve as the villain for season 2. However, he decided to keep Riverdale more rooted in reality. That doesn't mean he still doesn't want the characters to meet. During the "Netflix and Chill" panel at New York Comic Con, he spoke about his hopes for the future of the two shows.
“I’m first and foremost a fan of these two towns, Riverdale and Greendale. I love when comic book characters cross over, so it’s a dream. Right now, we’re focused on getting Sabrina out there and making sure Riverdale is as good as it can be. So, I’m hopeful!”
It makes sense Aguirre-Sacasa would want to focus on the standalone success of Sabrina before worrying about the logistics of a crossover for shows airing on not only different networks, but different methods of delivery (on TV weekly vs. streaming all at once). As the showrunner for both properties, it is good to hear he is open to the idea happening somewhere down the line. Plus, he wrote the comics on which the show is based, in which Betty and Veronica appear as witches from the Riverdale coven.
Riverdale might be more of a gritty crime show slash high school drama, but plenty of weird things go on in that town. And if the trailer from season 3 is any indication, things are just going to get weirder. Riverdale is promising its own "gory and grim" threat with the Gargoyle King, who doesn't look like he would appear out of place in Greendale. With the two town set only across the river from each other, anything can happen.

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina will be available to stream on Netflix starting October 26th.
