How To Get Rid Of A Bounty In Red Dead Redemption 2

It's easy to obtain a bounty in Red Dead Redemption 2, but it can be somewhat confusing to get rid of a bounty after being "wanted." Rockstar Games' follow-up to their critically-acclaimed 2010 game, Red Dead Redemption, brings players back to the Old West, and that includes everything that comes along with being in that time period, such as robbing trains and dueling with people in the streets. But, in doing so, players can earn themselves quite the bounty on their heads.

In Red Dead Redemption 2, players can obtain bounties by committing a crime, and the values for the crimes - for things such as looting a dead body to robbing a stagecoach, and more - range based on their severity. For instance, arson can earn players a $5 bounty, whereas a bounty for murder can net up to $20, depending on who was killed. Once players have a bounty on their head, it stays with them while they're in that state, and it can certainly go up as they progress through the game. So, how does one get rid of their bounty in Red Dead Redemption 2?

If players are caught committing a crime in Red Dead Redemption 2, they don't become "wanted" until someone reports the crime. (In fact, it's part of a side quest in Chapter 2 to prevent a person from reporting your brawl with another character, so be on the lookout for that.) Because there's that gap between committing a crime and becoming "wanted," players can utilize that opportunity to silence the person reporting the crime. That's perhaps the easiest way to prevent getting a bounty in the first place.

However, once players have a bounty placed on their head, (currently) the only possible way to get rid of a bounty in Red Dead Redemption 2 is to pay it off at the Post Office. Rockstar makes it easy for players to remove the bounty by placing a Post Office near every major city in Red Dead Redemption 2, of which the first one that players come across will be in the town of Valentine in Chapter 2. Of course, it's always possible that one of Red Dead Redemption 2's cheat codes will include a cheat to remove all bounties, but then players wouldn't be able to progress through the story.

While paying off a bounty in Red Dead Redemption 2 isn't difficult or particularly expensive (since the crimes themselves don't come with too much of a fine), the bounties can very well accumulate and become tedious to deal with. So, it's always best to just pay off the bounty whenever the opportunity arises instead of holding onto it and having more and more people come after Arthur Morgan. But, if players want to set the record for having the highest bounty in Red Dead Redemption 2, then, by all means, do so. It'll be interesting to see the results.
