Stranger Things is known for its nostalgic factor and creepy, gory horror, as the show pays homage to the 1980s with its setting, characters, and narrative. The characters' wardrobes and stylistic choices reflect this, with several stunning pieces that encapsulate the spirit of the decade.
The residents of Hawkins, Indiana stepped up their fashion game in the third season of the popular Netflix sci-fi show. With the town's residents celebrating summer and growing older - and apart - their fashions choices evolved and some characters finally stepped out from the shadows to forge their own identity. Here are the ten best-dressed residents in Hawkins, ranked.
10 Chief Jim Hopper

Hopper has an understated style in Stranger Things that is nevertheless distinct. For the first two seasons, he is mostly seen in his police uniform, but in season three he wears a fair few eye-catching Hawaiian shirts that make him stand out and channel a Miami Vice vibe.
Fatherhood may have inspired Hopper to broaden his wardrobe as both and Eleven expand their looks in the third season. The summer setting in season three also offered a new opportunity to present a different side to this fan-favorite character.
9 Johnathan Byers

Johnathan is a loner by nature and his stylistic choices reflect this. He blends into the background and wears dull, unassuming colors that allow him to pass through a room undetected with ease as opposed to the vibrant colors of his girlfriend Nancy.
Johnathan's style is edgy and reflects his taste in music and social status. Like the other characters in Stranger Things, he expanded his wardrobe in season three with some nostalgic pinstriped 80s shirts.
8 Robin Buckley

Like her co-worker and best friend Steve Harrington, Robin spends nearly all of season three in her Scoops Ahoy uniform. Robin wears her sailor costume well however, accessorizing it in a way that reflects subtle hints about her personality.
In her final scene of the season, Robin is shown wearing flared denim jeans and a loose shirt with a messy updo. Like Nancy, she channels the spirit and vibe of the decade with her hair and fashion choices.
7 Dustin Henderson

Dustin didn't have much of a style at the beginning of Stranger Things due to his young age. However, as the series progressed he developed a style of his own, standing out from the rest of the Party in the third season.
This reflects his journey in the narrative of the show. Dustin spends more time than the rest of the Party - except for Eleven - on a side mission, accompanied by Steve, Robin and Lucas' younger sister Erica during his encounter with the Russians underneath Starcourt Mall in season three.
6 Kali

Kali was only in Stranger Things for one episode and it was a controversial installment. Many fans resented season two's "The Lost Sister" for diverging from the Demodog invasion going on at the time in Hawkins Lab, though it did broaden the narrative for the show as a whole.
Kali's style was unique and channeled the punk movement of the 80s. She gives Eleven one of her trademark makeovers, which Hopper later comments on after the two characters reunite with bemusement.
5 Billy Hargrove

Billy was a complex, antagonistic character who met a grisly demise in the season three finale after being possessed by the Mind Flayer. Before this, he arrived in Hawkins in season two along with his stepsister Max Mayfield with a dramatic entrance, usurping Steve socially and instating himself as the new King of Hawkins High.
Billy had a typically 80s style, with a mullet, baggy denim, and leather jackets and unbuttoned shirts. His style was striking and certainly made him stand out from the rest of the town.
4 Max Mayfield

Max had a very tomboy-ish style upon her character's introduction in season two. She opted for baggy jeans and shirts, though her stylistic choices change dramatically as she grows older in the third season.
Max dons several pairs of denim shorts and brightly colored shirts that reflect the fashion staples of the 1980s. Like the rest of the Party, her developing wardrobe signifies her growing older and becoming a young adult.
3 Eleven

Eleven's wardrobe has had the biggest and most notable evolution in Stranger Things. At the beginning of the show, she lacks her own identity and wears Mike and Nancy's clothes, before branching out stylistically as she spends more time away from Hawkins Lab.
El has a punk makeover in "The Lost Sister" before settling on a more feminine style in season three. Max helps her find her own identity and discover what clothes she likes and wants to wear after a fun trip to Starcourt Mall.
2 Steve Harrington

Steve Harrington is one of Hawkins' best-dressed residents, despite spending all of season three in a sailor outfit. The former jock was very conscious of his image, status, and reputation which reflected in his impeccable clothing and hairstyle.
Steve's style is more preppy than Johnathan's or Billy's. He often dons jeans and vests as well as other staple clothing items from the 80s. As the son of wealthy socialites, his clothes are also expensive and represent his desire to impress.
1 Nancy Wheeler

Nancy's style is an impeccable blend of grace and 80s nostalgia, whilst also reflecting her growth and character development throughout the series. Nancy wears jeans and simple jumpers during the colder seasons, swapping her warm clothes for elegant dresses during the summer in season three.
In the third season, Nancy wears several gorgeous pieces whilst fighting misogyny in the workplace and the Mind Flayer in the field. She is a vital heroine who doesn't trade her femininity for strength and is a complex and interesting character.
