The hit UK blind date dancing competition, Flirty Dancing, has finally made its way to the US. It is time to meet the lucky singles looking to dance their way into someone else's hearts.
Flirting Dancing, hosted by actress and dancer Jenna Dewan showcases singles who learn half of a dance routine. One single will be matched with two possible partners and will learn a different dance to perform with each of them. The first time they see each other will be the moment they start dancing. After both dances are performed, the person chooses whom he or she would like to go out on a second date with. This is a twist that was not included in the original UK series. In the original series, the two singles dance together and then go on a date afterward, but since America loves losers, therefore one contestant will be stood up.
On the special preview of the new reality dating competition, Flirty Dancing aired on Sunday, December 29th (via EW), fans got to witness the first successful blind date dances. First up was performing arts teacher, Octavius who had some dancing ability walking into the competition and hopes to show off his fun side to his dates. He danced routines with two women, first it was to "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" with Meghan, a barber-in-training. Next, he danced to "I Wanna Dance With Somebody" with fashion stylist Marymarie. After he got the opportunity to dance with both women, Octavius had to choose one of the two women to continue on with Meghan.
Next, there is Erin, a 21-year-old hairstylist and social media influencer who is looking for a sort of reverse The Voice situation, as she's insecure about her "squeaky toy" voice. She danced a playful routine to "If I Can't Have You" with her first match, real estate developer Brandon Becker. After their dance together, she's paired with 25-year-old music composer and pianist who has performed at Carnegie Hall, Alec Sievern. She dances a flirty routine to "Perfect." After her dances, she chooses Alec to take on a second date, leaving Brandon stood up walking the streets of Los Angeles.
It seems that even if this blind date dance competition show has some tangibly awkward moments - which was to be expected from watching singles dance with a stranger for the first time. Regardless, the second part of the date where one of the singles has to choose which of their dance partners to choose, it seemed a bit harsh leaving one of the dance partners stood up. However, it does show the harsh reality that dating can be difficult and sometimes extremely disappointing. Viewers will have to tune in to watch and see if any of the singles will be dancing their way into each other's' hearts any time soon.
Flirty Dancing airs Wednesdays at 8pm EST on Fox.
