With two Golden Globes under The Kominsky Method's belt, it's safe to say that Chuck Lorre, Michael Douglas, and Alan Arkin have a hit on their hands. However, after two seasons of comedy and drama, Netflix hasn't announced whether the award-winning show would be back for a third season yet (as this article is published).
Based around the lives of actor Sandy Kominsky and his agent Norman Newlander, we see the ups and downs of growing old in Hollywood. Putting aside the stellar performances of the cast, it appears some fans aren't as obsessed with some episodes compared to others. Thanks to IMDb, we're taking a look at 10 of the lowest-ranking episodes.
10 Chapter 16. A Thetan Arrives - 8.2
Chapter 16 is the season two finale. In this episode, Phoebe seems to be on track with her therapy and rehab and is in a much better place. She's staying with her dad again and due to her sobriety, her son even left the Church of Scientology to start fresh with her. However, Norman's grandson didn't leave emptyhanded. He stole over a million dollars from the church, which puts Norman's safety at risk and sparks an idea for a business venture.
When we take a closer look at Sandy's life, he allows Mindy to take the reigns of the studio and she makes some serious changes; changes that could leave Sandy on the street.
9 Chapter 11. An Odd Couple Occurs - 8.2
"An Odd Couple Occurs" is a sweet relationship when we take a step back and examine it. Norman is now in a relationship with a lovely woman, his daughter Phoebe is out of rehab and seems remorseful of her actions, Sandy met Mindy's new boyfriend and has taken a liking to him — all seems to be good for Sandy and Norman.
But in a classic Kominsky Method twist, it doesn't last long. Norman is freaked out at his daughter's new appearance and attitude, forcing him to kick her out of his house. This enrages his new woman, Madelyn, and she leaves his house abruptly. Something similar happens to Sandy. Everything went well between him and Mindy's boyfriend Martin but she's afraid they got off too well...
8 Chapter 9. An Actor Forgets - 8.2
As the premiere of the second season, Norman is cleansing his home of his ex-wife and Sandy learns his daughter Mindy is dating someone. The kicker is her boyfriend is much older than she is... He's actually a similar age to her father than to her. Finding out his daughter was dating someone so much older than she was made Sandy wonder if his own daughter had daddy issues.
This episode also introduces Madelyn — a woman from Norman's past. The two dated before he married Eileen and she was also newly-widowed. Seeing Madelyn again brought back many feelings for Norman and he began to have hope again.
7 Chapter 13. A Shenckman Equivocates - 8.2
Chapter 13 was instrumental in the second season. After befriending Mindy's boyfriend Martin, the duo grabs lunch with Norman when Martin suffers a heart attack. Seeing Martin (and Mindy) suffer inspired Sandy to get a full-body scan to make sure he was okay in his advancing age.
By the end of the episode we find out Sandy has early stages of lung cancer, which shake him to his core and makes viewers wonder what's in store for the B-list actor.
6 Chapter 7: A String Is Attached - 8.1
Chapter seven is all about Sandy's tax screw-up. After three years of not filing taxes, he finds himself in over $300,000 of debt. Not knowing where to get the money, he makes a sad plea to Norman, which angers him. Norman looks down on Sandy for not doing something that every American should do and doesn't feel the need to bail him out.
But after talking to his late wife's spirit, he has a change of heart and will pay Sandy's debt; but there's a catch. To emasculate Sandy, Norman will have a "no strings attached" deal. This means Norman is donating the money out of the goodness of his heart and won't accept anything in return from Sandy. If it weren't for Mindy, Sandy would have never have taken it.
5 Chapter 3: A Prostate Enlarges - 8.0
In the third episode, Sandy grows tired of his prostate problems and decides to finally see a doctor about it. He's having trouble urinating and fears his libido is also failing because of it. We don't find out the prognosis of Sandy's prostate in this episode, so it leaves us on a bit of cliffhanger until his bloodwork comes back.
Back at Norman's house, he's dealing with his 40ish-year-old addict daughter living in his house and he grows tired of her negative energy filling his halls. On top of everything else, Norman is also having visions of his late wife and talks to her in his time of need.
4 Chapter 6: A Daughter Detoxes - 7.9
"A Daughter Detoxes" focuses on Norman's daughter Phoebe. With the help of Sandy, the two friends drop Norman's daughter off at rehab in hopes she comes out a better woman. The two then spend a night at a casino before heading home the next day to face reality.
Before Sandy drops Phoebe off at rehab with Norman, his daughter Mindy finds out her dad and their studio is in trouble after Sandy didn't pay taxes for over three years. This tension hovers over Sandy throughout the episode.
3 Chapter 5: An Agent Crowns - 7.9
The fifth episode opens on a comical note with Danny Devito as Sandy's doctor. He tells Sandy his prostate is in good shape but has "slow-moving" cancer cells. Sandy isn't sure if "slow-moving" cancer cells mean he has cancer or not, and quite frankly, Devito's character doesn't help him with the answer.
Thankfully, he has a good moment with Lisa and the two get back on track in their relationship. Meanwhile, Norman decides to dive back into work and goes to the office, which he later regrets when his co-workers treat him with kid gloves.
2 Chapter 1: An Actor Avoids - 7.9
The first episode of the entire series received a 7.9 rating, which in the grand scheme of the Internet isn't too bad. It's in this episode that we're introduced to both Sandy and Norman and their interesting dynamic. They may have started out as a business relationship but they transformed into best friends.
We learn that Norman's wife of over 40 years is terminally ill and that Sandy had a crush on one of his students. The episode wraps up on a sad yet uplifting note as Norman's wife dies and leaves him in the arms of his best friend, Sandy.
1 Chapter 4: A Kegel Squeaks - 7.8
Just by looking at the show's IMDb page, it's obvious fans weren't as fond as the first season as they were of the second. But their episode "A Kegel Squeaks" was its lowest ranking episode.
As the fourth episode of the first season, we see Sandy and Lisa going through an odd fallout and Norman kicking his daughter out of his house. There wasn't too much meat in this episode but it was ultimately an upsetting episode between Norman and his daughter Phoebe.
