Endgame Director Says Kevin Feige’s Star Wars Will Be Emotional & Unique

Avengers: Endgame director says Kevin Feige’s Star Wars project will be both emotional and unique. The recent arrival of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker may have put an end to the Skywalker saga, but Disney is far from finished with the famed series.

And while some fans have reservations regarding the direction that the Star Wars franchise is heading in, others are confidently looking forward to the future. There’s certainly no shortage of projects currently being developed, either. As one of the most well regarded directors involved in the sequel trilogy, news that Rian Johnson would be responsible for creating a new trilogy has left countless fans in a perpetual state of excitement. At the same time, there was considerable joy when it was announced that Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss would be writing and producing their own trilogy. Unfortunately, due to their busy schedules, Benioff and Weiss backed out of their Star Wars commitment just before the new year. Nonetheless, there is still much look forward to  – particularly news that Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige is in the process of developing a Star Wars film.

While fans of both Marvel movies and the Star Wars franchise don’t have a lot to go on in terms of what Feige has planned, there’s every reason to believe that it will be a major spectacle. For some, the notion that a big part of Marvel’s creative force is taking on the entirely different tone of Star Wars is a little unsettling, however. But a recent statement from Avengers: Endgame director Joe Russo via an interview with THR might just help to stop those types of concerns from worsening. According to Russo, Feige’s passion for Star Wars is second to none. Said the director:

"Star Wars is Feige's first and true love. He's a man who has a very, very large basement filled with enough Star Wars paraphernalia to fill a museum. Whatever he does with it is going to be passionate, emotional and unique."

It is perhaps difficult to believe that someone as perpetually busy as Feige could even begin to consider and plot the substantial issues involved in making a Star Wars film. After all, the 46-year-old is occupied with no fewer than six feature film MCU projects alone. Can he provide sufficient attention to Star Wars as well? Clearly Russo believes he can. What’s more, the fact that Feige has an apparent deep affinity for the Star Wars franchise means that the creative choices he makes on his project are more likely to reflect the desires of fans. This isn’t a guarantee, of course, but a big reason why the franchise has had many past issues with its directors is precisely due to certain filmmakers not vibing with the mythology.

Of course, there are those who will argue that simply loving the Star Wars franchise isn’t necessarily a guarantee of quality. That’s a fair enough point. Every Star Wars fan is going to have their own perception of the series and what needs to (or doesn’t need to) happen. But with Feige’s resume to date being what it is, the addition of his status as a major Star Wars fan is yet another positive in a franchise that hasn’t always had the strongest history of newcomers.
