The Bachelor went out with a bang in 2020! Peter Weber took us on a rollercoaster of indecision and heartbreak. He struggled to use his best judgment, he led with his heart, and he forgot his head many times.
The perplexing season came to an end in the two-night finale that Chris Harrison promised we could never predict. Some spoilers proved plausible, but the outcome was definitely unique. We know no one is engaged anymore, or even dating, but we are still bewildered after watching the final rose turn to thorns.
10 Madi and Peter's Flash-in-the-Pan Romance
News broke just a few days after the finale that Peter and Madison had broken up. The romance was really over before it began, which leaves fans everywhere scratching their heads. Peter is an indecisive man, but no one knows exactly what happened on Madi's end of the parting. They each shared vague Instagram goodbyes. Peter's was quite lengthy and also mentioned Hannah Ann, but here's the highlight: "Madi and I have mutually decided not to pursue our relationship any further. Believe me, this was not easy for either of us to be ok with, but after a lot of honest conversations, we have agreed that this is what makes the most sense for the two of us. The love and respect that I have for Madi will continue to endure."
Madison's post includes, "As Peter and I have decided to go our separate ways, I am confident that we will both move in the direction of our purpose and never forget that God has a plan in all things. I will always love and respect him. I am convinced our paths were meant to cross, and we are both better because they did."
9 Peter's "Closure" from Hannah Brown Relationship
On "After the Final Rose," Hannah Ann Sluss spilled some tea while telling off Pilot Pete. Apparently, not only was Peter thinking about Madison during his engagement to Hannah Ann; he also had Hannah Brown on the brain. Hannah Ann revealed to the public that there were "three women in this engagement."
We all knew he had feelings for Madi, but Peter led everyone to believe that he had put his past with Hannah B. behind him. Bachelor Nation would love to know what was discussed during that "closure" with Peter's former flame.
8 The Barbra-Cam and Barb's Death Glare
Peter's family showed themselves to be heavily invested in his love life. Peter's mother is also the president of the "I Hate Madison" club. It is not surprising to see that she was disappointed with the potential relationship between Madi and her son. But no one expected an embedded screen following Barb through 80% of the episode.
While the Barbra-cam was not constant, it sure did linger through much of the episode. Why did Barb get so much screen time? And beyond her disappointment, why did she look like she wanted to kill someone the entire time (except for when she smiled upon her goddess, Hannah Ann)?
7 Bad-Ass Hannah Ann Banishing Sweet Hannah Ann
Will the real Hannah Ann please stand up? She kept things pretty light throughout the season in her and Peter's relationship. Love notes and paintings, cuddly koalas, buckets of tears over the intensity of the whole program--this was the Hannah Ann we saw most of the time.
While she did have her moments (like Champagne-Gate, her catty catwalk with Victoria F., and her tense discussion about fantasy suites with Madison), Hannah Ann did not often dive below the surface. The break-up scene at Peter's house showed a hurt but bad-ass Hannah Ann. The live discussion Hannah Ann had with Peter only confirmed her strength and fire.
6 How Did Peter Get Away with Keeping Madi's Departure a Secret Until His Proposal to Hannah Ann?
One of Hannah Ann's hugest grievances with Peter was his omission of information. Technically, he did not lie, but he should have told the truth a lot sooner. Peter slipped Madison's exit into his proposal to Hannah Ann! No one in their right mind would condone such a sly move. And that was Hannah Ann's problem: she was set up for a magical moment and was thrown off guard.
Therefore, she did not put the pieces together right away. When she confronted him, Hannah Ann told Peter she thought he had kept it a secret because he knew her instincts would have picked up on the fact that he was not sold on her. Honestly, how did he put on such a good show for so long until it all unraveled?
5 Why is Peter's Family So Obsessed with His Sex Life?
Peter's mom, dad, and brother flew all the way to Australia to meet his final two women. They had met Madison at Mr. and Mrs. Weber's vow renewal. At the time, the family acted as if they loved her—my, how things changed. Madi kept the Webers waiting three hours for their meet and greet, but once they finally got acquainted, we learned something interesting: the entire Weber family wants Peter to keep up his sex drive.
Everyone knew Madison and Peter had a disagreement about the fantasy suites, but Barbra Weber and other son Jack took the matter to a new level. Barbra and Madison sat down together for a pointless conversation in which Barb defended Peter's intimacy with other women--physical or emotional. Meanwhile, brothers Jack and Peter had a heart-to-heart about Madi and her standards. In that conversation, Jack asked Peter if he would be able to abstain from sex until marrying Madison. This family's investment in Peter's sex life is both creepy and confusing.
4 The Hannah Ann "Venmo Theory"
Peter and Hannah Ann did not part until a month after the engagement. Theoretically, that would have given Hannah Ann time to borrow some money from her former fiance. Fans online developed a theory that Hannah Ann and Peter were connected on Venmo because Hannah Ann was the only contestant who had private settings on hers.
The theory is believable because filming ended in late November, and Peter and Hannah Ann could have still been engaged close to Christmas. Perhaps they were in cahoots to buy a last-minute present for someone? No one had the guts to bring it up in the finale, so we'll never know.
3 Madi and Hannah Ann's Parents Absent from ATFR
When Peter appeared on Hannah Brown's "After the Final Rose," Barb and Peter, Sr. were present and accounted for. Who could forget Barb cheering for her son's fourfold windmill fantasy suite?
Strangely, neither Madison nor Hannah Ann's families attended ATFR this year. They supported their girls from social media but avoided the live studio audience. Perhaps it's for the best considering Barb's toxic energy, but we can't help but wonder where the Sluss and Prewett families were.
2 Kelley Flanagan in the House
She was caught on camera whispering to her friend, Chris acknowledged her presence, and we all saw her in the live audience. What was Kelley doing at this event? She was asked not to attend the "Women Tell All" event, and no other former contestant was asked to attend the "After the Final Rose" taping.
It is no secret that Kelley irked Peter with her lack of drama and inability to focus on his comfort and happiness 24/7. She was a breath of fresh air to women everywhere. It's just strange that she attended the finale.
1 "Hi, Chris Harrison"
We're puzzled over a small but significant detail. When Hannah Ann arrived at the proposal scene, she addressed Chris by saying, "Hi, Chris Harrison." Maybe it was just nerves, but that seemed like an odd way to say hello to the guy who's been interrupting the rose ceremony all season long.
Hannah Ann was clearly nervous, and she had a hard time traversing the Australian terrain in those heels. Worrying about tripping, wondering if she would be the new Mrs. Weber...it's a lot to handle. Maybe Hannah Ann's trepidation made her feel a little awkward.
