Destiny 2's Exotic Armor Is Getting Seriously Changed Next Season

New seasons mean big changes for Destiny 2, and the upcoming Season of the Worthy will bring lots of tweaks for Exotic armor. Developer Bungie also recently announced that it will be changing the way that Legendary weapons work going forward, meaning Destiny 2’s gear is going to look quite different across the board soon.

Of course, there’s a lot more coming in the next season of Destiny 2 than just changes to equipment. Bungie recently shared a gameplay trailer for Season of the Worthy that teased new activities and a heightened assault from the enemy Cabal faction along with new gear. The story of Season of the Worthy will revolve around Guardians working with the Warmind Rasputin to prepare for and repel the attack from the Cabal. Things might not be as clear cut as that in The Last City, though, as a recently unearthed cinematic hints that Rasputin may not really be on the players’ side.

Destiny 2’s story can be pretty inscrutable, but what’s far more concrete are the cold, hard stats of gear progression, and they’re due for a big shakeup. In an update this week, Bungie spilled more details about Season of the Worthy, including sweeping changes coming to exotic armor. Rather than a blanket change covering all Exotics, Bungie is planning tweaks to a large number of individual armor pieces across all three classes.

Some of the biggest changes in Season of the Worthy are coming to the popular Warlock Exotic Contraverse Hold getting its damage reduction cut in half, and the Hunter’s Orpheus Rig returning a maximum of 50 percent Super energy for using Shadowshot. The single biggest nerf may be the Titan’s One-Eyed Mask. Not only is it getting downgraded to just having regular target highlighting rather than the previous target marking that allowed players to see enemies through walls, but its damage buff for killing marked targets is also being removed. To even things out, the previously removed shield for killing marked enemies is returning, but with a reduced duration. The changes to Exotics, particularly these three, seem mostly aimed at reducing the power of fan-favorite armor pieces in PvP.

Some players will definitely be unhappy about the changes to their favorite Destiny 2 Exotics, but none of them seems to make any piece of armor totally useless. With a new season on the way, players may even find a new piece of gear to replace their old favorite anyway, either from new story content or the recently reinstated Trials of Osiris.
