MonsterVerse Theory: Monarch Wakes Up MORE Titans In Godzilla vs Kong

Monarch's mission in Godzilla vs. Kong could result in the emergence of more Titans in the MonsterVerse. Godzilla: King of the Monsters established that a long list of Titans are known to exist, but never confirmed that the Titans being monitored by Monarch are the only ones in the MonsterVerse. There could other giant monsters that Monarch has no knowledge of, but that could easily change in Godzilla vs. Kong.

In Godzilla: King of the Monsters, it was revealed that well over a dozen Titans have been in hibernation for centuries. Some of these monsters are from Toho's library of kaiju, while the rest are original to the MonsterVerse. Apparently, creatures like Scylla and Behemoth have been sleeping underground in various parts of the world. The Titans are so spread out that there's at least one in every continent, and for every Titan that Monarch knows about, they have a base set up to study and monitor them. The Titans remained dormant until Jonah (Charles Dance) and Emma (Vera Farmiga) stole the Orca and used it to wake up King Ghidorah, who in turn woke up several other Titans.

Mark (Kyle Chandler) was quick to point the finger at Monarch and blame them for what happened, as it was Monarch's use of Mark's technology that led to this incident in the first place. So even though the eco-terrorists are the villains, Monarch is partly responsible for the conflict between Godzilla and King Ghidorah and the disasters that unfolded throughout the events of King of the Monsters. Fortunately, Godzilla was able to defeat Ghidorah and save the world from the mistakes of humans. It could be that Monarch will share some of the blame for what happens in Godzilla vs. Kong as well. Here's why Monarch may wake up more enemies for Godzilla and Kong to fight in the upcoming MonsterVerse movie.

Kong: Skull Island details a theory developed by Dr. Houston Brooks (Corey Hawkins) which postulates that, hidden beneath the surface of the Earth, there are caverns large enough to house numerous giant monsters. It's theorized that monsters can use these caverns to reach different parts of the planet, travelling hundreds of miles in mere seconds. It's also how Titans can travel from one location to another without having to show themselves, and therefore avoid detection from Monarch. The idea is that one of these entry points into the Hollow Earth tunnels is Skull Island. This particular gateway is how Kong's enemies, the Skullcrawlers, are able to reach the surface.

Godzilla: King of the Monsters confirms that the Hollow Earth Theory is much more than just a theory. When Godzilla is taken down by the Oxygen Destroyer, Monarch tracks his movements and discover that Godzilla's body descended deep into a tunnel under the ocean. After following him, Monarch find remnants of a past civilization and realize that this forgotten underwater city is Godzilla's home. An ancient group of people once lived here, and it would seem that they worshiped the Titans - including Godzilla - as gods. As it turns out, that place is also the oldest civilization in history. What all this means is that the history of ancient human and Titans are connected to the Hollow Earth, and more major discoveries could be awaiting scientists deep within the Earth.

Newspaper clippings in the credits of Godzilla: King of the Monsters reveal that Monarch has plans to go back into the Hollow Earth tunnels by going through the entry point in Skull Island. This lines up with what the official synopsis for Godzilla vs. Kong says about Monarch's mission. According to the synopsis, Monarch will be diving into the origin of the Titans. It's also stated that their journey will begin with Skull Island. So based on what is said in the credits, it's clear that Monarch's search for clues about the history of the Titans will bring them down into the Hollow Earth tunnels.

Consequences for this mission may have been teased in the credits' redacted text. One of the lines in the redacted text is as follows: "But how long will it take for the fires to awaken and send our own civilization into collapse." This suggests that something in the MonsterVerse still remains hidden even after the battle with Ghidorah. Whatever this is, this line indicates that it could spell trouble for all of civilization. Ghidorah's call woke up all the Titans that Monarch knew about, so what would it take to wake up this threat that Ghidorah's call couldn't even reach? It could be that there are Titans who are so deep into the Hollow Earth tunnels that they couldn't hear Ghidorah's call. And if there are other Titans in the Hollow Earth, Monarch's exploration of the tunnels could be what wakes them up from their slumber.

When a toy leak seemingly spoiled the inclusion of Mechagodzilla in Godzilla vs. Kong, it looked apparent that the events of the movie would amount to a team-up in which Godzilla and Kong would put aside their differences to defeat Godzilla's robotic duplicate. After all, fans have long believed that even though the fight between Godzilla and Kong is confirmed to have a definitive winner, a common enemy will eventually unite the two monsters. While all signs currently point to this adversary being Mechagodzilla, the threat facing the MonsterVerse in Godzilla vs. Kong could be much greater than that. If more Titans are awakened, Godzilla and Kong could face off against multiple villains.

Which Titans could emerge from Hollow Earth? Since all of the unseen Titans in the MonsterVerse are original, this would be the most obvious route for Legendary to take if they want to introduce another Toho kaiju, whether it be Gigan or Anguirus, whose skeleton was spotted in Godzilla's city. Another member of Anguirus' species could be alive somewhere in the Hollow Earth. Another Titan likely to appear is the mysterious creature teased in the redacted text. Included in the text are coordinates that point to Gobleki Tepe, an ancient temple in Turkey. This could be the location of an unidentified Titan who may or may not be a giant scorpion. Aside from him, there's no telling what other Titans are living in these unexplored tunnels, but awakening them could have dire consequences that may play out in Godzilla vs. Kong and beyond, considering that it may take more than one movie for Godzilla and Kong to deal with all the Titans unleashed by Monarch's mistakes.
