Arthur Morgan, main protagonist of Red Dead Redemption 2, has become the unwitting mascot of quarantined gamers in a recent fan design. Certain external worldwide events have driven people to stay inside and enjoy their video games more than ever before, and Red Dead Redemption 2 developer Rockstar Games has not only stated that they will be donating a portion of their online profits to help support healthcare workers but they have also promised that online services for games like Grand Theft Auto Online and Red Dead Online will not be interrupted despite the company's shift to a work-from-home model.
Rockstar isn't the only video game company who has stepped up to help give players something to do with their newfound time off during the current pandemic, as Sony recently put nearly 200 PlayStation 4 games on sale for under $20 and Bethesda Softworks, publishers of games like Fallout 76 and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, has donated $1 million to help relief efforts. Now, thanks to some creative fans, these helpful video game companies have a new unofficial mascot.
As recently reported by VG247, a Red Dead Redemption 2 fan who goes by the user name u/originalaliahmed created (or shared, it isn't quite clear) the original image of Arthur Morgan wearing a preventative mask and holding a bottle of what is presumably some sort of cleaning solution on Reddit nearly a month ago, and since then the design has appeared on everything from "hoodies, iPad cases, and even tapestries" to, of course, t-shirts. Check out one Red Dead Redemption 2 fan's new acquisition below:
The above Reddit user (u/Fit-Wafer) shared a link to the website where he purchased the shirt, and if interested fans of Red Dead Redemption 2 were to follow it they could find all sorts of other Red Dead Prevention paraphernalia as well, including normal heavyweight long-sleeve shirts and coffee mugs. The shirt worn in the photo above looks to have costed the user roughly $22.95 before shipping and is made of 100% cotton.
Arthur Morgan, even with (or perhaps helped along by) his gruff nature, is a perfect mascot for forcing people to stay safe and indoors, and the title choice of Red Dead Prevention is not only accurate in a satirical sense but also holds a deeper meaning for anyone who has played through and completed Red Dead Redemption 2's story mode. Having seen the design on so many different pieces of clothing and different types of accessories on various websites, however, players and fans of Red Dead Redemption 2 can only hope that the artist is being properly compensated with percentages of the sales.
