When Apple TV+ launched, the company was sure to put out a few original shows to entice subscribers. There was Dickinson, See, and For All Mankind. However, at the top of the food chain was their most expensive production, The Morning Show.
This series stars Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon, Steve Carell, and Billy Crudup. It follows the lives of the people behind the top morning news program after its lead anchor is fired for a sexual misconduct scandal. The show was a hit for being topical, filled with drama, and featuring tremendous acting. This is how each episode ranked on IMDb.
10 The Pendulum Swings (Episode 6) - 8.2
The first of three episodes tied with an 8.2 rating. They're ranked based on the total number of reviews. "The Pendulum Swings" sent the characters to California to cover the wildfires. Alex (Aniston) was an emotional mess after her husband said he wanted a divorce.
It forced Bradley (Witherspoon) to step up and lead the show. She also helped Alex through her tough time, giving the two a major bonding moment before things go downhill soon after.
9 No One's Gonna Harm You, Not While I'm Around (Episode 5) - 8.2
Everything got tense around the show as a story was set to drop with The New York Times regarding Mitch's (Carell) scandal. He surprised everyone by showing up at the studio to beg his co-workers to have his back. Ultimately, none of them came to his defense.
The other portion of this installment centered around a fundraising event for charity that Alex threw at her home. When things got stressful, Alex ran to Mitch's for solace, leading to an emotional scene. Bradley also attempted to bond with her new co-workers over drinks but was stopped by a call from her estranged father.
8 In The Dark Night Of The Soul It’s Always 3:30 In The Morning (Episode 1) - 8.2
As usual, the premiere episode features more total ratings than most. This started by throwing fans right into the mix as the show dealt with the fallout from Mitch's misconduct. Alex discovered that there were plans in place to replace her before the news broke.
When Bradley became a viral sensation, she was brought onto the show for an interview with Alex. Alex pressed her but she got through it. Bradley's performance impressed Cory (Crudup) so much that he requested a meeting with her to discuss her future.
7 Open Waters (Episode 7) - 8.3
When Alex and Jason broke the news of their divorce to their daughter Lizzy, she immediately placed the blame on her mother. Alex's PR team worked diligently to make sure that she came out of it looking good but she was more focused on her life falling apart.
This episode also dealt with Yanko (Néstor Carbonell) and Claire (Bel Powley) seeing their romance hit a snag after talking with HR. Mia (Karen Pittman) had a highlight when she addressed her co-workers about her past with Mitch. The big reveal came late when viewers discovered that Hannah (Gugu Mbatha-Raw) got her promotion after a hookup with Mitch.
6 Chaos Is The New Cocaine (Episode 3) - 8.5
When Alex informed the press that Bradley would debut as her co-host the following Monday, it meant the whole weekend would be spent prepping her. That led to chaos all over the place. Bradley was frustrated and Chip (Mark Duplass) was frantic.
Network head Fred Micklen was livid over his employees running things instead of himself. Cory pushed through, thinking the whole thing was a great idea. Bradley, unsure if she would even accept the job, fought almost every decision put in front of her.
5 Play The Queen (Episode 9) - 8.7
Again, it's the first of three episodes tied with the same rating. "Play The Queen" is the penultimate hour of The Morning Show. The focus of Bradley's upcoming interview with Mitch became her quest to take down Fred for his past actions. It drove a wedge between herself and Alex.
This installment saw them take sides, as Bradley went to Cory for backing, while Alex lined herself up alongside Fred. It set the scene for a thrilling season finale. The saddest moment came when Chip, who was always fiercely loyal to Alex, found out that she accepted a deal with Fred that would cost him his job.
4 Lonely At The Top (Episode 8) - 8.7
As stunned as audiences were when Hannah was revealed to have a sexual past with Mitch, they were just as surprised when the follow-up episode was one giant flashback. It took things to 2017 for Mitch's 50th birthday. You could see that he was a beloved person.
Due to the Las Vegas shooting that year, the crew headed to Nevada. Mitch asked for Hannah, a young booker at the time, to come along. While there, the two bond and Mitch invited her up to his room where he sexually assaulted her. She froze up at the moment. Hannah went to report it to Fred, who offered her a promotion in exchange for her silence.
3 A Seat At The Table (Episode 2) - 8.7
This episode put Cory and Bradley together for their first real meeting and that relationship was a strong suit for the rest of the season. On the opposite end, Alex was attempting to use the show's crisis to her advantage during contract negotiations and demanded approval of her new co-host.
Cory kept denying her that privilege and even called her bluff on walking away from the show. Alex got the last laugh, though. Honored at an event, Alex dropped a bombshell that Bradley was her new co-host, even though nobody, including Bradley, was aware of her move.
2 That Woman (Episode 4) - 9.0
"That Woman" focused on one of the most controversial subjects in the world today. During Bradley's debut show, she went off-script and started talking about her past, which led to her admitting that she had an abortion when she was younger. A lot of people were upset.
However, the younger, pro-choice community loved Bradley and it helped with the show's ratings. This caused some jealousy from Alex. The other major story saw Bradley interview one of Mitch's accusers, which resulted in the notion that the cover-up went beyond Mitch.
1 The Interview (Episode 10) - 9.7
A season should end in a great way and that's what The Morning Show did. The final episodes of the season saw Bradley set to conduct her long-awaited interview with Mitch. However, the death of Hannah rattled everyone and caused the segment to be called off.
Major events happened like Chip getting fired but the real kicker was the cliffhanger ending. While on-air, Alex snapped and joined Bradley in exposing Fred, the toxic culture, and the cover-up. The feed to the show cut off as did the entire season, leaving audiences wanting more.
