That '70s Show: The 10 Funniest Characters, Ranked | ScreenRant

Boasting a relatively large central cast compared to a lot of other sitcoms, it goes without saying that That ‘70s Show plays host to a huge number of hilarious characters. Widely remembered as one of the most popular sitcoms of the ‘90s-2000s era, the show made great use of every single character at its disposal, not really having a ‘weak link’ in the cast like most other shows.

Sure, some characters happen to be funnier than others, but as an ensemble, That ‘70s Show’s is a cut above the rest. These are the 10 funniest characters the show has to offer.

10 Bob Pinciotti

Next door neighbor and close friend of the Forman family – as well as the father of Donna – Bob Pinciotti is undeniably funny. Between his slovenly antics – he’s infamous for roaming the house with an open robe, for instance – and his propensity for annoying Red, Bob is a great comic foil to the Formans.

His jokes do have a tendency to fall flat sometimes, however – and end up feeling stale if an episode has him taking center stage. Nevertheless, the show wouldn’t be the same without him, and when Bob’s jokes do land, they really land.

9 Donna Pinciotti

Probably the least humorous member of the show’s central group of teenagers, Donna Pinciotti often acts as the straight man to the rest of the gang and their over-the-top antics. Fortunately, she’s also not relegated to the trope-y role of wet blanket either.

Donna’s wit is sharp enough that she’s at her best when pointing out the stupidity of her friends – in particular her boyfriend Eric – but often gets involved in the gang’s many predicaments herself.

8 Fez

Fez is very much a love him or hate him kind of character. While he’s one of the funniest characters on the show in a lot of respects, his jokes tend to revolve around the fact that he’s foreign or the fact that he’s a pervert, without much in between.

Because of this, it’s not uncommon for his jokes to feel more than a little tired. Still, at his best Fez is up there with the most hilarious characters on the show, though his mileage tends to vary from episode to episode.

7 Leo

A stereotypical, peace-loving hippie, Tommy Chong’s Leo is one of That ‘70s Show’s most beloved characters. An aging stoner who hires Hyde to work at the Photo Hut, it doesn’t take long before Leo becomes a pseudo-member of the gang, frequently finding himself wrapped up in their misadventures.

Despite apparently being high almost constantly, Leo’s mind is actually at its sharpest under the influence – which granted, isn’t saying much – with much of his humor deriving from his complete misunderstanding of every situation he’s in.

6 Jackie Burkhart

As a rich, entitled daddy’s girl at the start of That ‘70s Show, Jackie Burkhart had a lot of growth over the course of the show, especially compared to her fellow teens. While her attitude could often be irritating, her constant snobbery and delicate sensibilities put her at odds with the rest of the gang much of the time, creating some of the show’s most hilarious moments.

Jackie is also surprisingly sharp-tongued, able to conjure up scathing comments with the best of them, despite often being the target of such ridicule.

5 Steven Hyde

The classic, angsty ‘anti-authority’ type, Steven Hyde is the gang’s resident rebel, often serving as the ringleader of their ill-fated plans. Able to keep a cool head under pressure, Hyde’s devil-may-care attitude is a good foil for the more neurotic Eric, with the pair sharing one of the show’s funniest dynamics.

Hyde is also one of the more sarcastic characters on the show, with Fez, Jackie, and Kelso being particularly frequent targets for his biting insults.

4 Kitty Forman

One of the all-time great sitcom mothers, Kitty Forman is the beating heart of That ‘70s Show. Her infectious enthusiasm and warmth play extremely well against her husband’s colder, more cynical demeanor, often acting as a mediator between Red and Eric.

Kitty also happens to be one of the show’s smarter characters, calling out the stupidity of her family in hysterical fashion. What really cements Kitty Forman as one of That ‘70s Show’s funniest characters, however, is the fantastic delivery of actress Debra Jo Rupp.

3 Red Forman

Despite coming off as the stereotypical cold, emotionless father figure, Red Forman has a lot more depth than he initially lets on. With that being said, he’s definitely at his funniest as the angry, hot-headed war veteran hell-bent on foiling his son’s idiotic plans.

Dishing out some of the show’s most brilliant one-liners, the hilariously contentious relationship between Red and Eric is one of That ‘70s Show’s defining aspects – with Red’s fiery impatience and creative threats frequently providing the show’s biggest laughs.

2 Eric Forman

Serving as the focal character of That ‘70s Show, Eric Forman is perhaps the most neurotic character on the show – possibly a side effect of Red’s tendency to rule the household with an iron fist. It’s this neuroticism, combined with his incredibly sharp wit, that place Eric at the center of the show’s most hilarious gags.

While the writing of Forman’s dialogue is brilliant, the excellent comedic timing of actor Topher Grace is what really sets him apart from the rest of the cast.

1 Michael Kelso

When writing a character whose defining trait is their stupidity, it’s often incredibly difficult to make them come off as funny rather than annoying. Fortunately, Michael Kelso is one of the funniest sitcom characters of all time.

This is in part thanks to the terrific writing of the show’s first few seasons, but Ashton Kutcher’s iconic performance also imbued the character of Kelso with a huge amount of charisma, making him TV’s definitive lovable moron.
