The Last Of Us Part 2 Releases Gorgeous New Screens After Delay

Waiting fans now have a consolation prize for The Last of Us Part 2 after the latest delay: A new set of gorgeous screenshots providing even more clues about the upcoming game. This follows an announcement that the game is now indefinitely delayed while the world grapples with ongoing COVID-19 coronavirus challenges.

This isn’t the first time The Last of Us Part 2 has been delayed. Developer Naughty Dog already announced a three-month pushback after the game was originally slated to be released in February 2020. The new date was then set on May 29, but on April 2, 2020 the release date was canceled entirely, leaving the delay as “indefinite.” This isn’t entirely a surprise, as a variety of gaming companies have announced new game delays or holds on projects due to the coronavirus epidemic making a variety of work situations untenable.

But now, as collected by @Nibellion on Twitter, the studio has offered recompense with a new collection of screenshots to join more than 40 official screenshots that fans can peruse to pick up hints about the upcoming game. As with previous screenshots, the new collection emphasizes the quiet life moments and exploration of The Last of Us Part 2 over action scenes. There are still very few shots of any fighting, and no sign of any infected or how The Last of Us 2 may be handling them. Fans do get more scenes with a grizzled Joel, a shot of returning character Tommy, and various looks at Ellie, both in distress and in romance.

Guitars and horses continue to be a recurring motif in these screenshots, and the landscapes emphasizes the many different places The Last of Us 2 players will travel to. Snowy plains, old-growth forests, grain-filled meadows, and cities both abandoned and begun are all shown with beautiful detail. So far, the only apparent antagonists the screenshots have shown – including this new bundle – are humans, standing menacingly behind fires or in rainstorms. This is also a recurring theme from the first The Last of Us game, where the deadliest foes were usually other groups of humans with differing goals in mind.

So far, Naughty Dog hasn’t given any indication of when The Last of Us 2 will be released (and Uncharted 5 is looking less likely), but promises that there will be updates as they find ways to solve the logistic issues that COVID-19 has created. While it’s a real-world virus this time and not a mythical fungal infection, there certainly is some irony in this latest delay and how timely a release of the long-awaited sequel would be. For now, these screenshots will have to tide fans over as they continue to wait and explore their game libraries.
