Glee: 10 Things That Make No Sense About Will Schuester

In Fox's hit series Glee, Will Schuester was the headstrong coach of the New Directions aka the Glee club, and he was always able to help his students through rough times as well as teach them a valuable life lesson through song while doing it. Being one of the main characters of the series for six full seasons quickly made him a fan favorite and his character growth definitely shows. But although there were a ton of great groundbreaking moments with his character, there were also a bunch of very confusing moments that made us question his character.

Here we have listed ten things that make no sense about Will Schuester!

10 Before Glee Club He Was A Spanish Teacher

One thing that quickly becomes less of a major storyline in Glee is that Will Schuester started out as a very experienced and loved Spanish teacher when he slowly starts to lose interest in the subject. In the "Pilot" episode, as soon as Will learns that the Glee club needs a director or it will be shut down he quickly jumps at the opportunity to save it, but as the series continues we start to see that he pretty much quits his day job altogether. Since the Glee club is considered to be an extracurricular activity, it doesn't really make sense as to why he would quit being a Spanish teacher!

9 The Fact That He Chose Glee Club Over His "Baby"

Although his wife, Terrie, was lying about her pregnancy from the beginning this specific storyline shows a lot more about his character and his bad choice-making skills than hers. At the time he didn't know that she was faking the pregnancy and he still decided to keep his underpaid job and coach the Glee club rather than find a better job to help take care of their new "baby." Ultimately, he made a good choice since he and Terrie split up after finding out about her lie, but if the pregnancy would have been real it would have been a completely different story.

8 His Relationship With Terrie

From the beginning of season one, it was easy to see that Will and Terrie's marriage was nothing but completely toxic. The way that she treated him clearly made him miserable and feel like he was always making the wrong decisions. They were high school sweethearts and planned on staying together forever, even if that meant that Terrie had to lie to Will about being pregnant and making him sell his car in order to provide for them.

Although their relationship definitely made for a good storyline at first, looking back it definitely begs the question of why he would even stay with her if she was such a bad person, to begin with?

7 His A Capella Group

While most teachers find themselves busy with their families or doing some extra work after the school day ends, in season one of Glee, Mr. Schue spends time with his adult a capella group and ends up recruiting two of his Glee club members into the group as well- which is a completely weird concept. When Will adds Finn and Puck to his group, The Acafellas, they perform "I Wanna Sex You Up" for a room full of adults. After the cringe-worthy student teacher performance ends, it is never mentioned again in the series which doesn't make too much sense as to why it was such a big storyline in the episode.

6 His Hook Up With Shelby

As if the fact that Will made out with Rachel Berry's birth mother and the Glee club's rival team Vocal Adrenaline coach, Shelby Corcoran, wasn't out of line enough it only gets worse from there. At the beginning of season two, we see Will and Emma Pillsbury finally happy together in their relationship after a whole season of flirting and trying to get closer to one another, but as soon as Will is alone and vulnerable he finds himself making out with Shelby after spying on her team during practice. This entire storyline was completely out of nowhere and messy, and of course, it was never mentioned in the show again!

5 He Blackmailed Finn To Get Him To Join Glee Club

In the "Pilot" episode, Will Schuester overhears Finn Hudson singing in the school showers and he (creepily) walks in and listens. He later asks him to join the Glee club, but he ultimately declines. This causes Will to take things to a completely new and illegal level when he gets his hands on some marijuana and acts as if he found it in Finn's locker and threatens to get him expelled if he doesn't join the club.

This move was very unexpected from Will and definitely something that a normal high school teacher would lose their job for. He should have gotten punished for it and the fact that Finn didn't mention it to the principal just so that he didn't have to prove that he can sing to his fellow football players is completely crazy.

4 His Relationship With Sue

The constant feuding between Will and Sue Sylvester was definitely one of the best things that made the show so entertaining. Throughout the first season, viewers watched as they fought over Sue trying to shut the Glee club down every week along with Will wanting to have some of Sue's Cheerios join the club. But as the series went on there were a couple of times where the two of them would act like best friends, which was super out of character for both of them. Not only did it not make any sense, but it completely messed with some of the major storylines in the past seasons.

3 He Rarely Stepped In When His Students Were Being Bullied

One of the biggest things that Glee was known for was bullies tossing slushies in random students faces, and though we rarely ever saw any teachers stepping in to take up for a student after they were being slushied, Will Schuester had a couple of good moments at the beginning of the series when he stepped in to take up for his students. But in regular Glee fashion, this action didn't last too long, and the longer that the series went on the more that we noticed that Will just completely stops caring and stops punishing those bullies.

2 He Never Got In Trouble For Provocative Song Choices

One of the Glee club's first live performances was at a pep rally where they inappropriately performed Salt N' Peppa's "Push It" in front of the entire school. Of course, since that performance was in the first season of Glee, the creators probably wanted it to seem like the principal of the school, Mr. Figgins, would actually be able to punish Will and the club for their provocative song choice and dance moves- which he did by giving them a more child-friendly song list, but it didn't last too long.

As the series goes on, the Glee club just gets raunchier with their performances and provocative dancing as Will actually ends up joining them in most of the songs. Not only is it really odd that Mr. Figgins never punished the club for their song choices after season one, but it's also very out of character for a school principal not to put Will through those repercussions.

1 The Fact That He Became Principal By The End Of The Series

Something that no one saw coming in the series finale was William McKinley High School being turned into a performing arts school and Will being made principal. But not only was this a completely unexpected turn of events, but it also doesn't make any sense as to how Will got the position in the first place. In the real world in order to become a school principal, you would a Master's degree, which Will doesn't have. Maybe he was given the position just for being a somewhat good Glee club teacher, but either way, the series definitely ended on a confusing note.
