Harry Potter: 10 Prominent Gryffindors, Ranked By Likability

Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry might just be the most iconic school in all of fiction, and it's safe to say that the most recognizable and universally beloved house is that of Godric Gryffindor. This house is known for it's boldness and bravery, and it's also known for being home to most of the important characters in the entire Harry Potter saga.

There are quite a few Gryffindors to possibly choose from, but out of the most recognizable lion-hearted students in the series, which ones are the least likable, and which ones are the most loved?

10 Peter Pettigrew

It isn't exactly hard to figure out who belongs at the very bottom of any Gryffindor house list. Peter Pettigrew is undoubtedly the most craven, pathetic, and evil Gryffindor that the audience has the displeasure of getting to know throughout the Harry Potter series.

Wormtail has one redeemable moment out of his entire life, and that obviously isn't good enough to rank him above any other Gryffindor student.

9 James Potter

Obviously he's leagues ahead of Pettigrew, but unfortunately just by virtue of the fact that James Potter doesn't get a lot of screentime as well as the fact that we get to see the worst side of him in one of those moments doesn't help him.

James was obviously a decent person overall, but he was also a seriously flawed individual who wasn't always kind and caring like many other Gryffindors are.

8 Remus Lupin

Remus is easily one of the best characters in the entire series. He's kind, just, and willing to fight to do the right thing no matter the cost. So why isn't he higher on the list? Well, one particular reason, and no, that reason is not the fact that he's a werewolf.

It's actually because of how he acts as a result of being a werewolf. He is willing to isolate himself and hurt the people around them out of some misguided desire to keep them safe, regardless of their wants or needs.

7 Sirius Black

Sirius Black is obviously the most fun and compelling surviving member of the Marauders, which is actually incredibly impressive considering everything that he's gone through.

He was willing to stand up against his own family because of their sense of injustice, he was a loyal friend to the end, and he suffered for years to pay for a crime that he didn't commit. And through it all, he was still kind and loving.

6 Minerva McGonagall

As the current head of House Gryffindor, it's safe to say that Professor McGonagall represents all of the best traits of Godric's house. She's one of the strictest teachers, but she is an astonishingly talented witch and she is absolutely ferocious when she needs to be.

Dumbledore gets all the credit for Harry's career at Hogwarts, but Minerva is almost as responsible for Harry growing into a strong and good wizard as Albus is.

5 Neville Longbottom

Neville Longbottom came dangerously close to becoming the Boy Who Lived instead of Harry, and although at the start of his character development it seemed like he never would have survived, by the end it was obvious that he was one of the most moral and powerful wizards at Hogwarts.

The sword of Gryffindor even presented itself to him, which is the hallmark of a true Gryffindor.

4 Albus Dumbledore

Behind Harry Potter himself, it seems safe to say that Albus Dumbledore is the most iconic and revered wizard in the entire Harry Potter saga. And for good reason, he is one of the only wizards Voldemort truly feared, and Dumbledore did everything he could to prepare Harry for the fight against him.

However, he can't be higher on the list, simply because his methods of instruction were incredibly risky and hard to puzzle out.

3 Hermione Granger

It's honestly hard to choose between Ron and Hermione, because they're both amazing characters in their own right. However, it's obvious that Hermione has more trouble making friends than Ron does, and she has a lot of Type A personality traits that make her difficult for some people to deal with.

However, she's a literal living legend in the wizarding world, and in the world of Gryffindor.

2 Ron Weasley

Out of the entire golden trio, Ron is arguably the most appealing and easiest to relate to. He's not as exceptional as Hermione or Harry, but that almost makes him more likable.

He's funny and charming, and while he has moments where he behaves terribly, his good heart and kind demeanor always shines through. And of course, he was a key aspect of winning the wizarding war along with Harry and Hermione.

1 Harry Potter

Who else in the history of Gryffindor could be more likable than the titular hero of the series, Harry Potter himself? Harry was a surprisingly kind, level headed, and brave young boy from the very moment he found out that he was a wizard.

He changed the wizarding world when he survived Voldemort's killing curse, and then he defeated the worst dark wizard in magic history. Who in the world could beat a resume like that?
