Outriders Trailer Reveals Next-Gen Release Date | Screen Rant

The latest trailer for co-op shooter Outriders shows off more of its unique combination of gunplay and magic along with release dates for current and next-gen consoles, plus Google Stadia. Outriders is being developed by Poland’s People Can Fly and published by Square Enix.

After its reveal at E3 2019, Outriders hasn’t shown much more than a few trailers and a press preview, but what’s been revealed is enough to keep some players hungry for more. Outriders plays like a mix between a cover shooter and an action RPG, giving players both traditional firearms and magical powers to dispatch enemies. The game will have four classes to choose from at launch, each with its own suite of special abilities, and it supports up to three players at once in co-op. While its magic-meets-sci-fi premise and loot-based progression might look familiar to fans of games like Mass Effect and Destiny, Outriders looks like it’s aiming for a very different target that's not quite a traditional story-based RPG or an infinitely replayable live game.

Outriders’ newest trailer gives players a better look at Enoch, the hostile planet the game is set on, including some environments that haven’t shown up in earlier trailers or previews. While the new footage doesn’t offer players a look at gameplay, it does reveal when they will be able to experience it for themselves. Outriders is set for a holiday 2020 release on Sony and Microsoft’s current and next-gen consoles as well as PC, with a Google Stadia release date set for some time in 2021.

Developer People Can Fly is bringing a lot of shooter experience to Outriders, but the game still represents a new direction for the studio. People Can Fly is the studio behind the cult hit Bulletstorm and has done a lot of work on the Gears of War series in partnership with Epic Games, and then as part of Epic after being acquired. Outriders will be the first new IP from People Can Fly after the studio split from Epic Games in 2015.

Outriders may not be the most anticipated game coming to next-gen consoles this year, but its early previews mark it as one for fans of shooters and action games to keep an eye on. Its flashy magic attacks and hectic action could make it a nice showcase for the new PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X hardware, and it might even give a much-needed boost to the Google Stadia library when it gets there next year.
