The Kissing Booth 2: 5 Reasons Why Elle Should Have Dumped Noah (& 5 Why She Was Better Off With Marco)
Fans were overjoyed to hear that the Netflix film The Kissing Booth would be getting a sequel. Netflix released the original film in late July of 2020. It ended with Elle (Joey King) getting the guy, but sadly Noah (Jacob Elordi) had to go off to college. What would happen to the new couple?
The sequel left fans feeling conflicted. There's a new gorgeous guy at school who seems to fancy Elle, but Noah and Elle's relationship is on the rocks when he starts to act out of character with his new college life. Take a look at why Elle was better off kicking Noah to the curb and why she should have dated Marco (Taylor Zakhar Perez) instead.
10 Should Have Dumped Noah: Didn't Re-Assure Elle About His Feelings
When Elle finally gets Noah and they can be open with their relationship, there was a sense of impending doom. Noah had to go off to Harvard for his first year in college. In the film, Elle details what happens after their summer together and it was she who made the decision to keep their relationship low key.
She felt that Noah needed or wanted time to adjust to his new adult life at college. But the main issue is that Noah never tried to disagree with her or reassure her that it's not what he wanted. So, while the school believed they were quits and had Elle feeling insecure, in reality, Noah wanted Elle to be the same girlfriend from the beginning of their relationship.
9 Better Off With Marco: Took The Dance Competition Seriously
Elle persuades Lee (Joel Courtney) to join the equivalent of a Dance Dance Revolution competition. The grand prize is a cash reward that she needs to college. Lee fakes an injury and convinces Marco to be Elle's partner. Marco isn't pleased at first.
What made Marco a great guy is the fact that he took the competition seriously once realizing how much it meant to Elle. He tried to persuade her to change the routine to be more fluid and catch the judges' eyes. He even records them to show Elle that she needs to let loose. He does all this for Elle's sake of winning.
8 Should Have Dumped Noah: Didn't Introduce Elle At Dinner
Noah surprises Elle with a ticket to Boston to go and visit him in college. Elle is ecstatic and sees it as an opportunity to scope out his friends, especially his new female companion. When Chloe Winthrop (Maisie Richardson-Sellers) arrives at dinner, Elle is shocked.
Not only is she shocked by Chloe's overall magnetism and beauty, but she is shocked by Noah. Noah never personally introduces her to Chloe. Instead, he completely disregards her. It's only when Chloe notices Elle that he pays attention. It left Elle feeling insecure.
7 Better Off With Marco: Helped Elle Deal With Her Feelings
Elle was feeling overwhelmed in this movie. Between what was happening with Noah, Rachel (Meganne Young) and the competition, she was starting to feel the heat. Marco became the only person Elle felt comfortable with talking to, in a way that wasn't objective.
They go to the fair and on the Ferris wheel, Marco helps her realize that she needs to do what makes her happy. Later on at the beach, he helps her figure out her feelings with Noah. He gives her advice about holding on to people who share the same interests in life. On the flip side, Noah doesn't seem to have much time for Elle.
6 Should Have Dumped Noah: Pressured Elle Into Applying For Harvard
If dealing with a long-distance relationship isn't enough, Elle also has to take the next step towards college. She and Lee made the promise to apply to Berkley together where their moms met. The plan was set in stone until Noah convinced her to apply to Harvard. Elle never thought to do so before.
She also knew she didn't have the grades for it and she later finds out her family doesn't have the money. Regardless of her promise to Lee, she applies anyway. She also does the competition to get college money - all of this was for Noah. Elle's father even puts in his two cents about whether or not she's applying for herself or for Noah.
5 Better Off With Marco: Elle Has An Easy Bond With Him
When Marco starts to help Elle with the competition, they didn't expect to become friends. After the heart to heart at the fair, their relationship becomes more open and Elle changes. Elle was so concerned with Noah, Lee and Rachel, that she forgot to be happy for herself. She found this with Marco.
In montage scenes, Elle looks happy and carefree hanging out with him. They start to hold the same interests and actually develop a bond. When Elle was at her worst worrying about Noah, Marco was able to cheer her up and have her forget her problems while practicing the routine.
4 Should Have Dumped Noah: Cozied Up To Chloe In Front Of Elle
It's safe to assume that Elle would never be the type of person to purposely hurt someone she loves. She was unaware that Noah attended the competition and saw her kiss Marco. But it's a different story when Noah arrives at Thanksgiving with Chloe without warning. Noah knew that Elle wasn't convinced in his relationship with Chloe.
Noah took it a new level when he tries to hurt Elle by cozying up to Chloe at dinner. He gives thanks to her and his motorcycle while looking at Elle. At the football game, Chloe is able to control Noah's anger, just like Elle used to. He later puts his arm around her as they walk away.
3 Better Off With Marco: Still Tried To Fight For Her
Marco was already aware that Noah was hurting Elle in a way he wasn't realizing. Regardless, he and Elle started to feel something for each other. After they shared their kiss on stage, Marco still tried to fight for Elle. He met her at the kissing booth and let loose about his feelings.
Marco wanted Elle to come to the realization that there was something there. Throughout their relationship, he never tried to force his feelings onto her, knowing her current issues.
2 Should Have Dumped Noah: Didn't Tell The Truth About Chloe
The main reason why fans didn't rally behind Noah is because he was never able to face Elle about Chloe. He let Elle feel insecure about their relationship and her trepidations of his friendship with Chloe. He never set the record straight about how things actually were when he would go out with Chloe or were hanging out together.
Noah could have easily explained to Elle that Chloe was immune to his charm. He could have also made clear that he wanted Elle and Chloe to become good friends, like he became with her.
1 Better Off With Marco: Saw Elle's Worth And Happiness
Instead of being heartbroken over Elle not reciprocating his feelings, Marco took in on the chin. The main reason is that he cared more about Elle being happy, even if it meant being with Noah. He saw just how special Elle is.
His care towards Elle showed in the final scenes when he stares at her after graduation. His friend says she's not worth it, but Marco smiles and says with emotion that she is.
