When Netflix’s Masters of the Universe TV Show Trailer Might Release

Kevin Smith weighs in on when we might expect a trailer release for Netflix’s Masters of the Universe. Smith is onboard as director and showrunner of the new, upcoming Netflix series titled Masters of the Universe: Revelation. It’s pegged as an anime-styled sequel to the original He-Man and the Masters of the Universe cartoon launched back in 1983, and the first new MOTU series since the He-Man and the Masters of the Universe reboot (also referred to as Masters of the Universe vs the Snake Men) airing on Cartoon Network’s Toonami in 2002.

The story of He-Man is that of Prince Adam, son to the rulers over the world of Eternia. They are locked in a perilous struggle against a tyrannical wizard named Skeletor, and his merciless hordes spreading terror across the land. The only hope for the planet is He-Man, Prince Adam’s powerful, secret alter-ego, which he transforms into via his magic sword. As He-Man, alongside his brave and heroic allies, he possesses the might needed to defend Eternia and keep Skeletor’s evil forces at bay.

On Twitter Wednesday, Smith (Comic Book Men) released a statement offering some context to the current lack of previews yet to be made available for Masters of the Universe: Revelation. In response to another Twitter user requesting some looks at character designs, Smith states that he’d post scripts and animations for the show if he could, however Netflix has barred any reveals till they get closer to the still unchosen release date. He also then speculated that the earliest we might see a trailer could be in another 6-9 months. Check out his full tweet below.

Masters of the Universe: Revelation is also executive produced by Smith, and animated by Powerhouse Animation, the animators behind another Netflix series, Castlevania. Masters of the Universe: Revelation will star Mark Hamill (Star Wars) as Skeletor, Lena Headey (Game of Thrones) as Evil-Lyn, Skeletor’s right hand witch, Chris Wood (Supergirl) as He-Man, and Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) as Teela, warrior ally to He-Man. Revelation will mark Netflix’s second foray into the MOTU mythos, as they previously debuted She-Ra and the Princesses of Power in 2018, which has been a successful and praiseworthy reboot to She-Ra: Princess of Power, He-Man’s 1985 spinoff.

Masters of the Universe is one of last remaining major iconic 80s animated adventure franchises to receive a modern day update. There’s even a live-action reboot in the works with Noah Centineo playing He-Man. However, there hasn't been any updates in quite a while. The new animated Netflix series is something fans have been excitedly looking forward to, and it couldn’t be in better hands than with Smith. Although, if they’re still hoping for him to spill the beans on any further details on Masters of the Universe: Revelation ahead of schedule, they might want to remember this is literally ‘Silent Bob’ they are dealing with, so they might not want to hold their breath.
