The Star Wars sequel trilogy is over and will get debated about for years from a qualitative standpoint. The movies suffer a lot from a lack of cohesive vision and plan, but it also brought a lot of brilliance to the canon, including many great characters.
As is the case with all Star Wars content, a range of new characters got introduced, some of whom were evil, despicable, and abhorrent, some heroic and lovable, and some stuck in the middle.
10 Snoke/Darth Sidious
The Rise Of Skywalker revealed to fans that Supreme Leader Snoke never existed as a unique character and was an artificial creation of Darth Sidious. It was a cheap way to go and did not get executed well.
Nonetheless, as they are the same, they are both the pinnacle of evil. Darth Sidious, despite his arguable tarnished legacy, remains the big bad of the Skywalker saga and is utterly loathsome from an in-universe standpoint.
9 Captain Phasma
There were a few characters that many fans feel got wasted alongside Snoke, such as the Knights of Ren, and a couple of the heroes, with one of the most obvious cases being Captain Phasma, a character with great potential but who did not get dealt with well.
From what we get from her between The Force Awakens and her admittedly badass fight with Finn in The Last Jedi (a fight made 10x better by the accompanying deleted scene), she is deplorable as Captain in the First Order. Then, when you delve into her story further through books and comics, she somehow becomes even more hatable.
8 General Armitage Hux
General Armitage Hux is a character whose tone and persona seemed to flip flop a fair bit through each film, starting as a serious Nazi-esque figure to more of an evil comedic character and then to a spy who cared only about Kylo Ren getting defeated.
He is most definitely meant to be the Tarkin-like figure of this trilogy, and there was potential for that. He was just a typical unlikable bad guy officer, similar to most of the Empire villains but with more of a role.
7 Kylo Ren
By far and away, the most consistent and cohesive character in the trilogy, and the one who has come out of it the most popular in large part to Adam Driver's incredible performance, is Kylo Ren.
His arc is similar to Vader's with the redemption and death, but before that, he was on a route of pure evil that got thrown out in the third movie. His redemption and torn nature make him more likable than Hux and Phasma, who have no redeemable qualities.
6 Maz Kanata
Maz Kanata is such a fascinating character; even now, after the trilogy has finished, she remains a mystery, with a story that many fans want to get to know. The fact there was no real information about her life given in the trilogy annoys many people.
She is not that prominent in the trilogy, but has a decent role in The Force Awakens and The Rise Of Skywalker, with her kindness and eccentricity standing out similarly to how Yoda's does. She had an edge to her, but, unfortunately, fans did not get to know her too well.
5 Zorii Bliss
Arguably the best one-shot character of the trilogy was Zorii Bliss, a character from Poe's past, and one of the franchises criminal characters who is a good person, akin to Han Solo or Lando Calrissian.
Fans do not get to know her too well in the one movie she appears in, although she does make an impact as one of The Rise Of Skywalker's highlights. There is no doubt content with Zorii, and the brilliant Babu Frik will get released in the future, and that is exciting.
4 Rose Tico
So many fans have issues with Rose Tico. She is undoubtedly a character that got handled relatively poorly. Her storyline in The Last Jedi with Finn was pointless, that romance was awkward, and she got unfairly pushed to the side in The Rise Of Skywalker.
However, if you strip away that, you are left with a Resistance fighter who is so insanely kind and good-hearted, who desperately wants to fight for good, for people, and who gives her all.
3 Poe Dameron & BB-8
There are so many beautiful friendships in the Star Wars franchise, and Poe Dameron's relationship with BB-8 is one of the very best, particularly in the realm of human/droid partnerships.
Poe has a bit of a checkered past and was definitely a bit too quick to jump in an x-wing, but that was a part of his - albeit up and down - arc. He is a good, charismatic person who wants to do right and heroically fight for the cause. As for BB-8, he is just a friendly droid who loves his friends and always tries to do good and has both funny and adorable moments; what is not to like?
2 Rey
Many fans remain unhappy with the direction Rey's character took in the final third of the trilogy. Still, no matter the complaints people have about that or any illusions of being too overpowered, Rey is a great person and has many positive qualities.
Rey's perseverance, durability, and infinite retention of an unwavering benevolence is and will be an inspiration for generations to come, no matter the fandom issues that have gotten amplified in recent times.
1 Finn
There has been a lot of deserved divisiveness over Finn's character recently, and there is no doubt that his arc was bizarre and wasted at times throughout the trilogy.
Nevertheless, when someone who exudes that much charisma and has a search for what the true differences are between right and wrong, good and bad - however, it may have gotten executed - you are bound to get someone likable. Finn is so often the voice of reason, and is both loyal and supportive of his friends, and is someone who is near impossible to hate as a person.
