Ghost Of Tsushima: Legends Gets Its First Raid, Tale Of Iyo, Next Week

Ghost of Tsushima: Legends is expanding shortly after its launch, getting its first raid - called Tale of Iyo - next week, and introducing weekly challenges. The free multiplayer add-on to this year’s hit samurai action game replaces Ghost of Tsushima’s grounded take on feudal Japan with a supernatural setting, featuring mythological creatures as enemies.

Ghost of Tsushima: Legends was released earlier this month, giving players access to new two-player and four-player missions. The same update that brought Legends online also introduced a New Game+ mode to Ghost of Tsushima, giving players who want to tackle the game solo for a second time another reason to do so. For even more reason to play through the game’s campaign again, New Game+ mode also includes a charm that lets players recruit dogs to their side by petting them.

Now, Ghost of Tsushima: Legends is set to receive a major addition in the form of its first raid on October 30. Raids are a big deal in most online games, letting high-level players take on some of the most challenging content that a game has to offer, usually for major endgame rewards. Ghost of Tsushima: Legends’ first raid will be called The Tale of Iyo, and it stretches across three separate chapters. The raid will require a full team of four players to even attempt, and developer Sucker Punch Productions says it’ll take a gear level of 100 to have any chance of surviving. Matchmaking will also be disabled for The Tale of Iyo, meaning that anyone who wants to take the challenge on will need to recruit three others first.

Along with the game’s first raid, Ghost of Tsushima: Legends is also adding weekly challenges, unique missions that reset each week and put players’ skills to the test. Each week will feature a new two-player story missions and a four- player survival mission, both of week will have special modifiers to make them even more difficult, similar to Destiny 2’s Nightfall strikes. The weekly challenges will grant high-level gear to match their difficulty, making them a good prelude to taking on a raid.

The update makes it clear that Ghost of Tsushima: Legends is no afterthought. Sucker Punch says that it was planning the multiplayer mode nearly from the beginning of Ghost of Tsushima’s development, and it shows in how deep the mode goes. If the developer can keep adding new raids and make weekly challenges worth their difficulty, it could make Ghost of Tsushima a surprise multiplayer hit on top of its singleplayer success.

Of course, that all comes down to how Ghost of Tsushima: Legends’ weekly challenges and raids pan out, and if they can capture players’ attention. That’s something that even big multiplayer releases like Marvel’s Avengers have failed to do, and it’s no easy task to keep players coming back with so much competition. Ghost of Tsushima: Legends has been a hit so far, and its first chance to prove whether it will be an enduring one is coming up soon.
