Community: 5 Ways The Finale Disappointed (& 5 Ways It Was Perfect)

Community is one sitcom that certainly has a die-hard fan base, and even though it's over, lovers of this quirky and unique sitcom are still binging it over and over. This show had a flawless first three seasons, and all fans can admit that it fell victim to some pretty unfortunate sitcom tropes by the end.

However, real fans still loved every minute of it, and the finale was a hard goodbye to the lovable, relatable, and totally one-of-a-kind characters. Not every finale can be perfect, and while this one certainly wasn't, it still had some perfect moments to wrap up this wonderful series.

10 Disappointing: There's A Lot Of Unknowns

This is something that's both totally perfect and utterly disappointing. This show crutches on the fact that it's a 'show' in Abed's perception, and that makes it perfect to have such an unknown ending. However, there was certainly a lack of closure for fans.

Most sitcoms end in total harmony - except for this one. Annie and Abed move away, but to total unknowns, and Jeff and Britta are left at Greendale with no real eye for the future. Fans have no idea what is to happen, and that's both comforting and totally frustrating.

9 Perfect: Annie & Abed Moving On

If there's one thing that was simultaneously hilarious and also made no sense, it was that no one left Greendale. Finally, fans got to see Annie and Abed get what they actually deserved, and also what their characters wanted.

Annie got an internship with the FBI, and Abed was moving to Hollywood to finally start his film career. This was so wholesome and it couldn't have been a better ending for either of these dynamic and lovable characters.

8 Disappointing: Britta's Character Arc

If there's one character that unfortunately never fulfills their character arc, it's Britta Perry's. She has so much potential and is somehow still always the punchline for the study group when talking about failure.

In the finale, Britta never even redeems herself. The episode is hardly about her, actually, which is a shame considering she is one of the core members of the series. She doesn't discuss her career path to being a psychiatrist, and by the end, she's serving the group drinks. It's a bit disappointing.

7 Perfect: The Season Seven Pitches

This series is unlike any other in that it really steers into the sitcom tropes - on purpose - and breaks the fourth wall. It separates it from any other show, and it's one of the things that makes fans love it so much.

The last episode has Abed discussing season seven - and fans get to see a bunch of different future possibilities for the crew. While fans couldn't get a season seven, at least they got to see what could have been.

6 Disappointing: Chang's Entire Character

There was little redemption or character arc for Ben Chang, and frankly, his role in the season finale was a bit rash and unnecessary. He added some basic humor but nothing that was actually deep to the ending of the show.

While this show had many characters come and go, it wasn't exactly a good thing that Chang was one to stick around - and not change at all. For most fans, it took away from their final episode with the study group.

5 Perfect: Shirley Made An Appearance

Shirley appeared only in the first and last episode of the final season, and it was enough to give fans their fill of this lovable character. At the very least, she was able to have a cute final scene and say goodbye to the viewers after six seasons.

Sure, fans would have preferred her to have stuck it out for a final season, but at least she got a heartfelt and deserved moment before it all ended for good.

4 Disappointing: All Romance Is Dead

After spending a great deal of time having the characters date each other and developing their weird relationships, there's literally no one in this show that ends up with another character. Abed's girlfriend (Brie Larson) mysteriously vanished, and Jeff gets neither Britta or Annie.

While this is actually kind of refreshing for a sitcom, it's also a bit disappointing. In fact, a lot of fans are out there shipping Annie and Abed, which was more than obviously an adorable couple that never happened.

3 Perfect: Jeff's Goodbye To Annie

Every lover of this show knows how frustrating the Britta-Jeff-Annie storylines. However, there was something about Jeff and Annie's relationship that was special and fans couldn't help but ship it.

They never got together, which honestly, made a lot of sense. But they did share a heartfelt goodbye - and viewers got to see an honest kiss that was a totally perfect ending to their relationship arc.

2 Disappointing: Troy Didn't Return

For any fan of the show, this is inarguably the most disappointing part of the last couple of seasons, and especially for the season finale. Troy and Abed were a partnership that honestly made this show, and it was just never the same without him.

Fans could have prayed that he would return for a final appearance, but he never did. This finale couldn't be perfect without a Troy and Abed reunion, and for that reason, there will always be a bit of disappointment.

1 Perfect: Jeff Grows Up

After he has a terrifying moment about Abed and Annie leaving, and his age really catching up to him, the episode ends with Jeff joining the 'older' members of his crew at Britta's bar. He has become one of them and accepts that he's a teacher (and an adult) at Greendale.

This entire series was arguably about Jeff's growth, and this was the moment that every fan was able to see it actually had taken place. The characters had a cheers and it was a perfect send-off.
