Patch notes for Fortnite's forthcoming update, Version 16.50, tease the return of a "fan favorite" that Epic Games plans to unvault upon deploying the patch tomorrow. Conventional wisdom suggests Update 16.50 could serve as the final content drop for Fornite Chapter 2, Season 6.
The battle royale's Zero Crisis Finale went live more than two months ago on March 16, ushering in the release of Season 6. Notably, the season introduced new animals, such as wolves and bears, as well as a host of cosmetic items like skins for Rebirth Harley Quinn, Rebirth Raven, Spire Assassin, and Lara Croft. The talk of the town as of late has centered around Batman and his Zero Point arc, which Epic Games and DC continue to explore in a six-issue comic series, Batman/Fortnite: Zero Point.
Earlier today, Fortnite Status on Twitter shared partial patch notes for Fortnite Version 16.50, which goes live tomorrow morning, May 25, at 4:00 am ET. The account teased the addition of larger spaces in Creative Mode and a Wild Week that will kick off next month on June 3. Particularly of interest is the hint that a "fan favorite" item will once more enter the mix with the advent of tomorrow's update. Datamined information imparted by Twitter user HYPEX (via GameSpot) reveals this week's Legendary Quest will task players with dealing damage using Dual Pistols; this equipment could very well serve as the "fan favorite" in question.
Epic Games has yet to disclose the specifics itself; thus, it remains to be seen whether fan suspicions and datamined details about the mysterious item will prove accurate. Fortunately, the wait to find out for sure is already drawing to a close.
Fortnite Season 6 is presumably coming to an end in the near future, as well. Rumors and speculation claim the current season will wrap up in a matter of days on June 8. Epic remains mum on the topic, of course, but the typical three-month runtime per season intimates that an early June end date isn't too farfetched. That the ongoing Battle Pass will run its course on June 7 gives further credence to the June 8 date. As always, though, fans should take such conjecture with a grain of salt.
Fortnite is available as a free-to-play experience on Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Android.
