Some highly skilled fan art combines Resident Evil Village's monstrous antagonists with the Pokémon franchise's Elite Four. Resident Evil Village is a recently-released survival horror title which acts as the eighth numbered installment in the long-running series. Pokémon, meanwhile, is a monster collection franchise which celebrates its 25 year anniversary this year.
Upon release on May 7, 2021, Resident Evil Village was very well-received by both critics and players. The horror title takes the first-person perspective of its predecessor, 2017's Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, and combines it with the more action-focused approach of the iconic Resident Evil 4. The game has been a big success, recently taking the number one spot in physical game sales in the United Kingdom. This noteworthy accomplishment comes three weeks after the game's release, with Village beating out more recent high-profile releases like Mass Effect: Legendary Edition and Miitopia.
Fantastic fan art, posted to Twitter by user LatterBug, turns Resident Evil Village's antagonistic Four Lords into the Elite Four from the Pokémon franchise. Pokémon's Elite Four are the strongest four Trainers of any given region, and they often serve as difficult enemy encounters in each installment. LatterBug's artwork pairs each villainous monster with appropriately-themed Pokémon, making for an aesthetically cohesive lineup. Lady Dimitrescu, who transforms into a hideous dragon for her boss fight, utilizes Dragon-type Pokémon. The ghostly Donna Beneviento uses Ghost-type Pokémon, while the noxious Salvatore Moreau uses Poison-types. Finally, the eccentric inventor Heisenberg uses Steel-type Pokémon.
Like many popular releases, Resident Evil Village has inspired the release of many mods from the game's player base. These mods serve to shake up how players experience the terrifying title, adding new twists and turns to keep the game fresh. Some of these mods are humorous, such as the mod that changes every painting and photo in the game into images from Spongebob Squarepants. Other mods, such as a customized field of view slider, are more practical and allow players to make valuable changes to how the game plays. One interesting mod, recently released by Nexus Mods user xRaq, allows players to replace protagonist Ethan Winters with his daughter Rose.
Resident Evil Village was a big success upon release, and many players were particularly drawn to the game's colorful cast of vile antagonists. The game's Four Lords, plus their leader Miranda, are each unique and memorable in their own way. By drawing a parallel with Pokémon's Elite Four and pairing each villain with appropriately-themed Pokémon, LatterBug is able to phenomenally illustrate the differences between these bosses.
Resident Evil Village is available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PC, and Stadia.
