Fan-Made Joker Motion Poster Spotlights Joaquin Phoenix's Clown Prince

A new Joker fan-made motion-poster gives Joaquin Phoenix's Clown Prince of Crime a more frightening and eerie vibe. Warner Bros. and DC Films are visiting the '80's via the upcoming standalone movie, which will give one of the most popular comic book villains his own origin story. Directed by The Hangover's Todd Phillips from a script he co-wrote with Scott Silver, the movie will boast a star-studded cast including Robert De NiroZazie BeetzMarc Maron, and Brett Cullen, who will play Thomas Wayne.

Joker is tipped to launch a brand new banner for DC Films that may be called DC Dark (or DC Black) and will not be narratively connected to the DCEU. Plot specifics for the film are still being kept under wraps, but it will follow the Clown Prince of Crime back when he was known as simply Arthur. Rumor has it that it'll establish a deeper connection between him and Bruce Wayne/Batman other than just being arch-nemesis, making them half-brothers with the same biological father.

From digital artist BossLogic comes a brand new motion-poster for Joker featuring Phoenix's Clown Prince of Crime. Using the made-up and non-made-up images of the character from the test footage released by Phillips and pairing it with the song "I Started A Joke" instead of The Guess Who's "Laughing" gave the short clip a more sinister vibe. Watch it below:

Fans have been skeptical about the Joker standalone movie when it was first announced. Not only did the DCEU just introduce a brand new incarnation of the character with Jared Leto, the franchise's pioneering hero, Superman, doesn't seem to have any film planned in the near future. Most thought that the Phillips-directed movie is nothing but another rushed superhero project from Warner Bros. in an effort to get another smash hit like Wonder Woman. It wasn't until the first official look at the characters and videos from its set made their way online that most were genuinely convinced that this film has the potential to evolve the comic book movie genre if done the right way.

Aside from the in-movie decisions including the narrative and aesthetic choices by Phillips, fans also appreciate the fact that the director is handling the movie's PR really well. While there was undoubtedly more issues in Justice League other than its questionable marketing campaign, it didn't help the movie's cause that the studio never addressed any of the rumors surrounding the project. Shazam! was also a great example of this, letting people's first look at Zachary Levi's character's suit come from a grainy paparazzi shot rather than releasing an official portrait.

Things are seemingly different with Joker, however. Not long after it began production, the official portrait for Phoenix's character was released online, followed by Beeetz's. Following several more set video leaks, the initial test footage with the titular role was also rolled out, further fueling people's desire to know more about the film.
