Titans will clash in 2020, when Godzilla vs. Kong comes roaring into theaters. Adam Wingard (The Guest) is set to direct the fourth entry in Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures' MonsterVerse franchise, which began with Godzilla in 2014 and continued with Kong: Skull Island in 2017. Next up is Godzilla: King of the Monsters, in which Godzilla collides with fellow Toho creatures Ghidorah, Mothra and Rodan - which should serve as a nice warm-up to get him ready for his fight with King Kong.
Godzilla vs. Kong will begin filming in October 2018 in Atlanta, Georgia, and is expected to wrap by February 2019, followed by over a year of post-production to get these two CGI behemoths ready for the big screen. We've gathered together everything we know so far about the movie, and will update this page regularly with the latest news.

Returning Cast Members From Godzilla: King of the Monsters
Godzilla: King of the Monsters actors Millie Bobby Brown, Kyle Chandler, and Ziyi Zhang are all set to return in Godzilla vs. Kong. Brown's character, Madison Russell, is the daughter of a Monarch scientist and seems to have some kind of connection to the Titans. Chandler plays Madison's father, Mark Russell. Zhang's character will play a significant role in both movies, but all we know about her character so far is that she appears to be working for Monarch. So far there has been no indication that any cast members from Godzilla returning (like Aaron Taylor-Johnson or Elizabeth Olsen), but it's possible that Ken Watanabe will once again reprise his role as Monarch scientist Dr. Ishiro Serizawa... assuming he isn't killed off in King of the Monsters.

New Cast Members Include Julian Dennison
The biggest new casting addition for Godzilla vs. Kong is Julian Dennison, who recently played angry youth Firefist in Deadpool 2. Frances McDormand was at one point rumored to be in the casting mix, but this was quickly refuted by her representatives. We also learned in July 2018 that The Walking Dead's Danai Gurira was in early talks for a role, but it's currently unclear whether or not those talks panned out.

Godzilla vs. Kong Is The Fourth MonsterVerse Movie
The MonsterVerse is a cinematic universe based around Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures' collection of giant monster properties, and built on the idea of a "Hollow Earth" with Titans lying dormant below the surface. The franchise began with Godzilla in 2014, and continued with Kong: Skull Island in 2017. Godzilla: King of the Monsters is up next, releasing in 2019, followed by Godzilla vs. Kong in 2020. Like the Marvel Cinematic Universe's S.H.I.E.L.D., the MonsterVerse has its own secret agency that tracks the movements of these monsters, called Monarch Sciences.

The Story Will Pick Up Where King of the Monsters Leaves Off
Kong: Skull Island, which introduced the MonsterVerse's version of King Kong, is set in the 1970s, and so Godzilla vs. Kong will reveal how Kong has fared in the interim decades. Wingard has said that his movie will mainly be a continuation of the story set up in King of the Monsters, with returning characters from that movie, and that Kong himself will be "more rugged" and "more aged." We don't yet have any details about what drives these monsters (who so far have been depicted as more or less being on the same side as humanity) into conflict, but things are sure to get messy when it happens.

There Will Be Other Monsters
The MonsterVerse movies released so far have pitted Godzilla against a pair of MUTOs and King Kong against the skull crawlers of Skull Island. Godzilla: King of the Monsters will feature four main monsters: Godzilla, King Ghidorah, Rodan and Mothra. While Godzilla vs. Kong might sound like a more straightforward affair, director Adam Wingard has said that it's actually "a massive monster brawl movie. There's lots of monsters going crazy on each other." While he didn't offer any details regarding the other monsters, we know that Monarch Sciences' website lists many outposts all around the world, which are dedicated to containing Titans that have been discovered. Perhaps a few more of them will come out to play.

There Will Be A Winner
Godzilla vs. Kong aims to answer the question of who would win in a fight between its two title monsters, and answer it unambiguously. The 1962 version of Godzilla vs. Kong ends with the two monsters falling off a cliff while brawling, and then going their separate ways. Wingard has said that he doesn't want the same kind of ambiguity in his own movie, explaining:
"I do want there to be a winner. The original film was very fun, but you feel a little let down that the movie doesn’t take a definitive stance. People are still debating now who won in that original movie, you know. So, I do want people to walk away from this film feeling like, Okay, there is a winner."
King Kong is really the underdog in this fight, since he's smaller than Godzilla and doesn't have atomic breath to help him out. However, if Godzilla vs. Kong goes the same way as Batman v Superman, the underdog could easily prove to be the champion.

Director
Godzilla vs. Kong will be directed by Adam Wingard, who is currently best known for horror movies like You're Next and Blair Witch. Wingard also demonstrated his flair for action with the 2014 thriller The Guest. Wingard has demonstrated a thoughtful approach to the source material when talking about Godzilla vs. Kong, explaining that Ishirō Honda's original 1954 Godzilla was in part an ode to the tragedies of World War II and Hiroshima. "If you watch that first film it’s really a sad movie," said Wingard. "It’s a really depressing exploration of that, so you always have to remember at the end of the day the reason you’re here is because a major catastrophe took place." He also acknowledged the importance of balancing the darkness with action and excitement, saying, "At the end of the day it is for kids as well."

Godzilla vs. Kong's Writers Room
Two giant monsters beating each other up might not sound like the kind of movie that requires seven writers, but that's how many people are in the writers room for Godzilla vs. Kong. To be clear, these writers aren't all writing the script together, but are working on ideas for the movie and plotting out the narrative before work on the actual screenplay begins. Terry Rossio (Pirates of the Caribbean) is overseeing the writers room, which also includes Lindsey Beer (Sierra Burgess Is A Loser), Patrick McKay and J.D. Payne (Star Trek Beyond), J. Michael Straczynski (Sense8), T.S. Nowlin (The Maze Runner) and Cat Vasko.
