In a new peek at Godzilla: King of the Monsters, the famous character of Ghidorah looks quite different than his classic design. Ghidorah is one of Godzilla's most famous foes and first appeared in the movie Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster in 1964. Since then, he has been included in a number of Godzilla films, video games, TV shows, and comic books due to his long-running popularity.
As the title of his first film pretty much sums up, Ghidorah is an extra-terrestrial three-headed dragon, who is often one of Godzilla's foes. Ghidorah is usually quite a bit bigger than Godzilla, but has proven to be cowardly time and time again, often running away from the true King of the Monsters. The design of the monster has changed quite a bit over the last 54 years, but some elements have always remained the same. The character is always shown to be covered in golden scales with three heads, two tails, and a long wingspan. Ghidorah is also memorable for not having any arms and two feet that look similar to Godzilla's. That being said, the upcoming version of Ghidorah looks to be straying away from this classic design.

In a new image from Total Film, Ghidorah's foot can be seen lurking in the fog unknown to the characters on the bridge. Even though the image may not reveal the full look of the creature, the foot itself is interesting since it strays away from the classic design of the character. In most iterations of Ghidorah, his feet are rather short and stumpy, which is definitely not the case for this new image. Instead, this version of Ghidorah looks like a pterodactyl's foot putting much more emphasis on the creature's long horrifying claws. Besides Ghidorah's foot, the image also reveals some sort of a standoff occurring on the bridge, which could possibly take place after the artic raid that was seen in the Godzilla: King of the Monsters San Diego Comic-Con trailer.
Ghidorah was first revealed to be in the Warner Bros. MonsterVerse during the post-credits scene for Kong: Skull Island. In the scene, it is revealed to James Conrad and Mason Weaver that Kong is not the only monster in the world. While Ghidorah's silhouette can clearly be seen in trailers for Godzilla: King of the Monsters, a few other monsters can be spotted in the trailer as well, including Mothra and Rodan. Several other monsters have also been teased by the Monarch website, which is part of Warner Bros.' marketing for the upcoming film.
While this new version of Ghidorah might look a tad different than the classic version, it makes sense to give the character an updated look that appears more visually appealing on the big screen. After all, as iconic as the classic designs for the monsters are, most of them were just actors in big rubber suits. It's also important to point out that this version of Ghidorah appears massive. The entire form of the character isn't even revealed, but his foot alone could easily smash this bridge to pieces.
Even though the 2014 version of Godzilla isn't the largest version of the character to date, it is significantly bigger than the Godzilla in the '50s, '60s, and '70s. Likewise, the current form of King Kong is the biggest version there has ever been. Fans might have wanted to see the classic design for Ghidorah in Godzilla: King of the Monsters, but making minor adjustments to the character's design seems necessary to make the creature look worthy of fighting Godzilla.
