Season 2 of HBO’s Room 104 Welcomes Michael Shannon & Mahershala Ali

HBO’s late-night anthology series Room 104 will begin season 2 in November and it will also welcome a number of high-profile guest stars, including Michael Shannon and Academy Award winner Mahershala Ali. A welcome addition to the premium channel’s eclectic line-up for night owls (or people who stream at a more reasonable hour), the first season of the Mark and Jay Duplass-produced series earned strong reviews for its inventive storytelling that utilized a diverse cast and list of directors to tell short stories set in the eponymous hotel room.

The first season had a number of memorable episodes and guest stars, like Transparent star Amy Landecker in ‘Phoenix’ and Philip Baker Hall and Ellen Geer in the season finale ‘My Love.’ But it might have been the silent story told through dance in ‘Voyeurs’ that cemented the series’ place as one to watch. And from the look of thing, season 2 plans to take that good will and run with it.

In an official announcement from HBO, the second season of Room 104 will include: "a 30th birthday celebration sidetracked by a jealous sister; an internet first date between a famous Russian political technologist and a veterinary nurse; a woman who hears a voice inside the walls; two men who meet to fulfill an unusual fantasy; and more.”

While the stories certainly sound interesting, perhaps it’s the lineup of guest stars that will get people watching. Season 2 guest stars include:

“Mahershala Ali, Joel Allen, Stephanie Allynne, Katie Aselton, Frank Birney, Josephine Decker, James Earl, Marlene Forte, Abby Ryder Fortson, Ginger Gonzaga, Judy Greer, Brian Tyree Henry, Anita Kalathara, Jennifer Lafleur, Tom Lenk, Phil Matarese, Sheaun McKinney, Natalie Morales, Kent Osborne, Zane Pais, Leonora Pitts, Mark Proksch, Pia Shah, Michael Shannon, Onur Tukel, Dolly Wells, Rainn Wilson, Mary Wiseman, Charlyne Yi and Katya Zamolodchikova.”

Aside from Shannon, who appeared on the network in Fahrenheit 451, and Ali, who, will soon star in season 3 of True Detective, other notable stars include Judy Greer (Ant-Man & the Wasp) and Atlanta’s Bryan Tyree Henry. The first season made great use of stars like Jame Van Der Beek and Melonie Diaz With any luck, HBO will market the upcoming season based on its impressive guest stars and get more viewers tuning in.
