Marvel Studios produced a fake script for Avengers: Infinity War in which Loki survived. It's a matter of record that Infinity War was probably the most secretive movie of all-time, with Marvel going to unprecedented lengths to ensure audiences weren't spoiled on the film's events - and that included making sure fans didn't know that Thanos would kill Loki in the beginning.
Three leaks persuaded the Russo brothers that they were going to have to take some pretty radical steps to keep the Infinity War plot a secret. Few actors were given access to the full script, with most given just specific pages pertaining to their parts. The overall secrecy was so high and self-aware that Tom Holland posted a joke Instagram of his burning a copy he'd allegedly taken home with him. If audiences knew that Loki (among other people), specifically, would die in Avengers 3, it would've arguably ruined the experience for many people. And so, the Russos distributed fake scripts among the cast and crew to keep everyone on their toes.

The Art of Avengers: Infinity War contains an entertaining anecdote by executive producer Trinh Tran, who reveals that members of the production crew were given fake scripts. But what's most interesting is that Loki actually survived in one of those scripts.
"We created a version of the script where Loki would get away in an escape pod at the beginning of the movie. When we started shooting that particular sequence, we had crew members who were thoroughly confused. We had to let them know that those were fake versions of the script that they read."
It's not uncommon for the producers and directors of blockbuster films to keep a few secrets. During production on The Empire Strikes Back, the scene in which Darth Vader reveals his true identity was kept a secret from the entire cast and crew. Only three people knew the truth: George Lucas, director Irvin Kershner, and, at the last possible moment before filming the scene, Mark Hamill. David Prowse (who played Darth Vader in the suit) read fake dialogue - "Obi-Wan killed your father" - and the true line was later dubbed in by James Earl Jones in post-production. The Russos, however, seem to have taken secrecy to the next level - with not even the production crew knowing about a major character death until the moment they turned up on set.
In the case of the God of Mischief, only Tom Hiddleston knew Loki would die early on. He met with Marvel in May 2016 in order to discuss the plot of Thor: Ragnarok, and the Russos came in to tell him where it would lead up to. Still, when it came to actually filming that scene, Hiddleston admitted it was tremendously powerful. He was stunned by the fact Loki called himself an Odinson in his final scene. In Hiddleston's view, that brought a close to Loki's entire character arc.
Many fans are convinced that Loki is actually alive. There are only two scenes in the history of the MCU where the right-handed Loki wields a weapon in his left hand; his death in Avengers: Infinity War and a scene in Thor: The Dark World, where an illusory "mirror reflection" Loki was left-handed. It's, thus, been suggested that the Loki killed by Thanos was another fake. Hiddleston, for his part, won't rule out the possibility that Loki survived, and speculation has even more after the announcement of Marvel's upcoming Loki TV series. While that could potentially be a prequel to Infinity War, it's also possible Loki isn't as dead the movie suggests. There would be a certain irony if Marvel's production crew were given a fake script in which Loki survived - only to film a fake scene in which he died.
