An All My Children reunion is officially in the works on Riverdale, now that Kelly Ripa is playing Hiram Lodge's mistress on an upcoming episode of The CW's Archie Comics TV show. Hiram, of course, is portrayed by Ripa's real life husband Mark Consuelos, who met and married the Live! with Kelly cohost back when they were both acting on the hit ABC soap opera (which ran for more than forty years) in the 1990s.
After being referenced, but never seen, throughout Riverdale's first season (due to that whole being incarcerated for embezzlement and fraud thing), Hiram made his debut in the flesh on season 2. Father to Veronica (Camila Mendes) and husband to Hermione (Marisol Nichols), Hiram gradually evolved into being the show's main antagonist over the course of its second season, and was likewise responsible for Archie (K.J. Apa) being falsely accused of murder and landing behind bars himself. It seems that yet another one of Hiram's dirty little secrets will soon come to light, now that Ripa is joining the series.

Ripa confirmed that she's playing Hiram's mistress on Riverdale through her Instagram account and further included a cheeky reference to the fact that she and Consuelos have been together for twenty-three years in real-life. You can check out her post in the space below.
EW has further confirmed the news and revealed that Ripa is playing Mrs. Mulwray, a "confident and tough" woman who gets caught up in a larger conspiracy that quickly grows beyond her control (as conspiracies involving Hiram Lodge are wont to do, after all). Riverdale is well known for including references to classic and/or cult works of crime and noir pop culture by now - be it with individual episodes titles or by way of visual homages within the series itself - and that's once again the case here, as Ripa's character is indeed named after Faye Dunaway's own femme fatale character, Evelyn Mulwray, from Chinatown.
It will certainly be interesting to see how the fact that Hiram has a mistress (or, at the very least, alleged mistress) factors into the story on Riverdale season 3. With Hiram currently locked in a power struggle with his daughter, it's quite possible that Veronica will use this knowledge against her father to her advantage, as leverage. It's further possible that tonight's flashback episode, which has Riverdale's younger actors playing their onscreen parents as high schoolers, will set the stage for Mrs. Mulwray's entrance and, in turn, reveal a connection between her and season 3's larger mystery surrounding The Gargoyle King.
