Pokémon Sword and Shield Pokedex Leaked: A Complete List of Monsters

If this brand new Pokédex rumor is to be believed, the full list of the Pokémon cut and kept in the upcoming Pokémon Sword and Shield has leaked. Fans of the Pokémon franchise who are reading this article now should consider themselves officially warned: if this leak is real, every Pokémon that makes and doesn't make the lineup in Pokémon Sword and Shield will be revealed below.

Fans have known since E3 that Pokémon Sword and Shield would not feature all of the Pokémon created in each generation. The word back in June came directly from Pokémon Sword and Shield Producer and longtime developer Junichi Masuda. He said plainly at the time that new Pokémon games will no longer let players catch every single Pokémon ever created; instead, games will launch with a finite number of pocket monsters to track down. The backlash that came from fans was immediate and loud. Diehard players quickly began to wonder if their favorites would make the cut, while most hoped that Pokémon maker Game Freak would focus on removing the least popular Pokémon.

The massive leak comes from Joseki on ResetEra as they reveal the cuts in list and infographic form. The infographic featured below shows cut Pokémon in white, kept Pokémon in green, and old Pokémon with new forms in dark green. Scanning over the image reveals quite a few surprises and potential disappointments for fans. Squirtle, a long-time favorite, and the oft-memed Slowbro are missing. While beloved Pokémon, like Snorlax and, of course, Pikachu make it in. Not even all the stalwarts featured in the recent Detective Pikachu made it in, with Greninja, Psyduck, Cubone, and Mewtwo all seemingly cut. If this leak is real, it's a doozy.

Note: Green are included Pokemon, the Dark Green ones are a new regional form, and everything with a white background is gone.

As we close in on the launch of Pokémon Sun and Shield, the leaks have been coming in quickly. This complete Pokédex leak, if real, is certainly the largest and most likely to cause ill will among fans. The sheer number of fan-favorite Pokémon dropped is nearly staggering, and the choices of which to keep and which to skip might even be more frustrating to some. Charizard over Bulbasaur and Squirtle? Clefairy beats Jigglypuff?

It's sort of crazy that Game Freak might really cut so many classic Pokémon as they turn the page on the franchise with this new generation. Perhaps the missing monsters will make their way in through updates down the line.
