Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker star Daisy Ridley brilliantly recaps the previous eight Star Wars movies in rap form on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Ridley first appeared in the Star Wars sequel trilogy as Rey in the 2015 blockbuster Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and quickly took her place alongside Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia and the other iconic heroes of the Star Wars universe.
After establishing Rey’s courageous, Force-sensitive character in The Force Awakens, the sequel trilogy next sent her to the mysterious planet Ahch-To for the sequel The Last Jedi, where she attempted to become the pupil of a very cranky Luke Skywalker. Along the way, Rey discovered her less-than-interesting family origins, while experiencing a strange spiritual connection with her adversary Kylo Ren (Adam Driver). It’s not yet known what twists and turns Rey’s story will take in the upcoming trilogy-capper The Rise of Skywalker, but teasers indicate the character could take a dark turn – unless of course J.J. Abrams and company are deliberately spreading bad information in order to throw fan theorists off the scent.
With Rise of Skywalker getting set to hit theaters soon, Ridley and the other principals involved with the film are doing their media rounds and naturally are being bombarded with Star Wars questions. Of course, The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon always gives stars a chance to engage in some off-beat antics in addition to the usual dry talk show conversation, and that was certainly the case last night for Ridley who showed off her rap skills in a segment recapping the first eight Star Wars movies. See the video in the space below:
Like her fellow Star Wars star Natalie Portman, Ridley possesses surprising skills as a rapper. In her recap, Ridley rewinds all the way back to 1977’s A New Hope and goes through the movies in release order (as opposed to chronological story order), hitting all the highlights and of course dropping in a few jokes. When Ridley gets to the prequels, there is the obligatory crack against everyone’s least-favorite Star Wars character Jar-Jar Binks. And when she finally arrives at The Last Jedi, Ridley happily acknowledges the elephant in the room regarding Rey and Kylo Ren’s relationship by mentioning the shirtless Kylo meme and referring to the villainous character as “kind of a flirt.”
Of course, the rap stops before Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, so there’s nothing here for those craving spoilers. But as a quick recap of the first eight Star Wars films, and a showcase for budding rapper Ridley, the clip is incredibly thorough and very amusing (even with Fallon in the background doing his worst Bob Dylan impression).
