There is a lot of great content on Netflix right now. From Korean shows to health documentaries, it's probably one of the best places to find your next favorite series. But even though the superhero genre is on the rise right now, teen dramas are still very popular with audiences.
The End of the F-ing World is one such coming-of-age story with peculiar dark humor and odd yet engaging main characters. If you binged the series and want more, you will want to check out these 10 Shows To Watch If You Love The End Of The F-Ing World.
10 Russian Doll
Considering that Netflix is going to make a second season, you can be sure that Russian Doll is a great show. In fact, it's a pity that so many people still don't know about it when it's actually pretty good. The series is about Nadia Vulvokov (played by Natasha Lyonne), a game developer, who relives the same night again and again (kind of like in Groundhog Day).
The show received several nominations and has been praised both for its comedy and for Lyonne's performance. Besides, the story is incredibly engaging and you will find yourself wishing for more with every new episode.
9 Teachers
If you are looking for a good British show, Teachers is the one. Following a group of awkward but fun-loving teachers, the show's cast changes dramatically across four seasons which means you will get to like a variety of almost equally entertaining characters.
The series was nominated for six BAFTAs during its runtime and even got a short-lived American version in 2006. With its peculiar and sometimes dark humor and curious details (such as animals appearing in some scenes while characters are completely oblivious to them), Teachers is a great alternative for those who love The End of the F-ing World.
8 SKAM
Compared to other shows on this list, SKAM is quite special simply because its original language is not English - it's Norwegian. Translated as "Shame", the show follows a group of Norwegian high-school students and the problems they need to deal with as they gradually grow up.
Not only does it use an innovative real-time format, but it also explores such themes as homosexuality, sexual abuse, relationships, eating disorders, mental health, religion, and identity. After four seasons, the show also got an American version as well as several European ones, but none of them could achieve the greatness of the original.
7 Everything Sucks!
Another series from Netflix, Everything Sucks! tells the story of a group of teenagers who come together to make a movie. The story is set in the town of Boring, Oregon in 1996 and all the main characters go to Boring High School. Even though the town is real, the school is fictional.
The show deals with such issues as sexuality, mental health, growing up, and following your dream. One of the main characters is played by Sydney Sweeney, the actress who appeared in Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and played one of the title characters in Euphoria which is another show on this list.
6 Misfits
You might have heard of Misfits at one point or another. This British show became quite popular during its run and was loved both by critics and by regular viewers. In addition to that, despite its changing cast, the series was on for five seasons and got an American remake in development.
The premise is fairly simple. A group of young offenders is sentenced to work in a community service program. Suddenly, the town is hit with a weird electrical storm. After it's gone, they realize that they gained some kind of supernatural powers.
5 Maniac
Considering that the two main roles were played by Emma Stone and Jonah Hill, Maniac came and went without getting much attention. And nevertheless, it's an amazing show that has the potential to become a cult series (after all, it did earn a variety of nominations on different awards).
The story follows Annie Landsberg and Owen Milgrim who bond during a pharmaceutical experiment conducted by Neberdine Pharmaceutical Biotech. The peculiar aspect is that each episode has a different setting as the characters have "adventures" under the effect of the drugs they are testing.
4 On My Block
Back in April, On My Block was renewed for a third season and rightly so. Even though the cast is fairly young, their performances have already been praised by critics. If you are looking for a show with a diverse cast and interesting storylines, this is the one for you.
The teen drama is set in a rough inner-city Los Angeles neighborhood where four teenagers become high-schoolers and face challenges that might affect their lifelong friendship. It might seem like a regular coming-of-age story, but it actually has a unique charm to it.
3 Dark
Dark is the only other non-English language series on this list (along with SKAM). It is the first German-language show on Netflix and has been wildly underappreciated. Even though the premise sounds like Stranger Things, the series is actually completely different from it.
Everything begins when a boy disappears in the fictional town of Winden, Germany. As adults and their teenage children look for him, dark secrets come out about almost every person currently in town. The show is very atmospheric and will keep you on the edge of your seat the entire time.
2 Euphoria
If you are a Marvel fan or watched Disney channel as a kid, you probably have at least a vague idea about who Zendaya is. Well, she is the star of Euphoria and has been very passionate about the project. In addition to that, as mentioned earlier, Sydney Sweeney is also in the show.
This HBO series follows a group of high-school students who have to deal with their everyday lives as they get together, do drugs, drink alcohol, and make mistakes. Euphoria isn't afraid of getting honest and explores such themes as sexuality, drug abuse, trauma, relationships, and many other topics.
1 Sex Education
Sex Education is probably the closest you could come to the tone of The End of the F-ing World. The humor is not as dark though, but the overall atmosphere is quite similar. Besides, it has received critical acclaim and was renewed for a second season.
The story follows Otis Milburn (played by Asa Butterfield), a high-school student whose mother is a sex therapist. This is why he knows a lot about sex and everything related to it despite still being a very shy and awkward teenager.
