The Bold Type: Main Characters Sorted Into Hogwarts Houses

Freeform's The Bold Type created by Sarah Watson follows Sutton Brady (Meghann Fahy), Kat Edison (Aisha Dee), and Jane Sloan (Katie Stevens) as they experience the highs and lows of life while working at the fictional women's magazine, Scarlet. The show has a wide range of diverse characters with varying personalities and dynamics and often tackles real-world issues with a candid attitude rarely seen elsewhere.

The hit series returns January 23rd for its extended fourth season and with that in mind, we decided the best way to celebrate the impending new season is to sort the cast into Hogwarts Houses.

10 Jane Sloan: Slytherin

Jane is a perfectionist and tends to believe her perspective is always the correct one. She's ambitious, constantly seeking out challenging stories to write, and is easily underwhelmed by pitches she thinks aren't hard-hitting. Despite her flaws that often lead to her butting heads with her friends, Jane proves time and again to be most loyal to those closest to her — and if you break her trust, it's not easily earned again.

As a journalist, Jane proves to be a resourceful person who easily finds connections through research and people, a primary example being when she was digging up dirt on Patrick, the newly elected head of Scarlet Digital.

9 Sutton Brady: Hufflepuff

Sutton is the embodiment of practical: for years, she put off acting on her dreams of working in the fashion business because of how impractical it would be, settling for more stable jobs where she could better support herself.

Sutton constantly proves herself to be a patient and hard-working woman, she works her way up from an internship and manages to earn herself a position as an assistant to the demanding Lauren. Moreover, Sutton proves herself to be a sympathetic friend to all, always there to lend a hug or a joke to lighten the mood.

8 Kat Edison: Gryffindor

Kat is constantly evolving and changing, and no challenge seems too big for her. Kat struggles with her identity and her purpose a lot within the show, but rarely loses any of her bravado or nerve.

Whether it's navigating her new relationship with Adena and exploring her orientation, to journeying into the world of politics to help make a difference in her neighborhood, Kat always has the courage to keep moving forward.

7 Adena El-Amin: Ravenclaw

Adena is a photographer who can find beauty in the mundane and enjoys helping others enjoy a moment like simply standing and listening to a street musician play.

It would be easy to place Adena into Hufflepuff since she's patient and hardworking, but ultimately Adena prides herself on her individuality and creativity, hallmark traits of a Ravenclaw.

6 Jacqueline Carlyle: Gryffindor

When Jacqueline first appears in the series, it's obvious that she has a lot of nerve and enjoys challenging and making the male board members of her company uncomfortable with her frank discussions of her magazine's content.

Jacqueline constantly encourages the people around her to never give up, to "raise holy hell" on anyone that tries to stop them from their dreams and pushes through all of her own fears and insecurities to do the right thing — even at the cost of her job.

5 Alex Crawford: Hufflepuff

Although he rarely gets the spotlight he deserves, Alex is the resident sweetheart of Scarlet Magazine. He's shown to be a dedicated journalist, never letting poor assignments beat down his motivation.

Alex is always there for his co-workers and sometimes gets dragged into the fashion closet to hear the ladies’ dilemmas without much explanation but he still provides much (albeit confused) support where he can. When Alex realizes he unknowingly pressured a former friend into hooking up with him, he owns up to his mistake and posts an article to be honest with it — jeopardizing his own career in the process.

4 Oliver Grayson: Ravenclaw

Oliver is a dry-witted, sometimes scatter-brained but an always awesome boss to Sutton. As the head of Scarlet's fashion department, Oliver has a keen eye for aesthetics and a wealth of information on the fashion industry.

He supports Sutton endlessly without judgment as she attempts to find out where she wants to be in the fashion industry, often giving her the push she needs. He's extremely creative and owns his eccentric side, and is shown to be extremely witty (often giving us the best one-liners in the show) which makes him an exemplary Ravenclaw.

3 Richard Hunter: Slytherin

Richard is an ambitious man with plans to change the world. He's dedicated to his work and keeping up appearances, but eventually uses his resources to push for a way where he and Sutton can be open about their relationship.

At the end of the third season, Richard receives the opportunity of a lifetime where he can finally achieve one of his lifelong dreams — but the catch is that it's far from New York, and Sutton. Richard nearly turns away the offer due to his loyalty and love for Sutton, but she encourages him to follow his dreams like he's often done for her.

2 Patrick Duchand: Hufflepuff

Introduced in season three, Patrick is the new head of Scarlet's digital magazine and puts a wrench into the well-oiled machine with his out-of-the-box thinking, and apparent obliviousness to other people's feelings and experiences.

Patrick is a peaceful and honest guy who can often be found meditating in the office to welcome new ideas. Despite his high-ranking position, Patrick almost always seems passive and often underestimates the people around him. That said, he is loyal to the magazine and is incredibly fair-minded which makes him a candidate for Hufflepuff.

1 Ryan Decker: Slytherin

Ryan is ambitious and loyal to a select few, Jane in particular. He constantly supports her and her career, even encouraging her to blow him off on their first date to go get her story.

Although he makes a lot of mistakes, Ryan does what he can to make up for it because he genuinely cares for the people in his life. He uses his resources to help support himself as a freelance writer, and to help Jane where he can, even giving her the money she needed for medical reasons.
