Fans of Marvel Comics and movies know Miles Morales as the superhero Spider-Man, a teenage high schooler, and a genius in the making. But now they'll need to add 'big brother' to the list -- because it's time for a celebration.
Thanks to the Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse movie more people than ever are familiar with the Morales Family (or the trio they used to be). They were too popular to perish along with the rest of Marvel's Ultimate Universe, and ended up transplanted into Marvel's main continuity instead. But since then, it's been one life-threatening adventure after another. So the timing couldn't be better for Miles' mother Rio to go into labor... just as Miles discovered his Uncle Aaron was back at it as the Prowler, carrying out a hit for the new crime boss Ultimatum. But family is forever, and there's a baby on the way!
The historic moment has finally arrived in the pages of Miles Morales: Spider-Man #13, ending an issues-long arc of stress and anxiety as Miles rushed to make sure he could be at his mother and father's side for the birth of his new baby brother or sister. But with a bit of luck, a surprise visit from a flying friend, and a whole lot of fighting, he and his Uncle Aaron manage to save the latter from the bounty placed on his head, arriving at the hospital just in time for Miles (and readers).
Time to welcome Billie Mariana Morales into the world, and into the Marvel Comics family -- who saw fit to make a special announcement which can be seen below:
The beautiful news now means that not only will Miles have his career as a superhero to balance with a normal life, but will be adding the responsibilities of a big brother, too. While also dealing with the fact that his Uncle Aaron is now an involuntary tool in the crime organization of Ultimatum, as well. Needless to say, the next few years are only going to get more complicated, not less.
In fact, this new addition to the Morales family arrived hot on the heels of Marvel's announcement of OUTLAWED, a new storyline in which the underage superheroes and vigilantes of Marvel Comics will be threatened with new legislation forcing them to give up their activities. As one of the most well known member of Marvel's next generation it was assumed Miles would play a significant role. But now that he's going to have a sister looking up to him, or one who needs him to stick around, his position may prove more conflicted than previously believed.
Then again, that's what family is for when it comes to superheroes. Readers can see this moment for themselves by picking up Miles Morales Spider-Man #13 now.
