Deadpool Creator Shows Off Conan Sword Signed By Arnold Schwarzenegger

The creator of Deadpool, Rob Liefeld, has shown fans one of his most prized possessions - a framed sword, signed by Arnold Schwarzenegger, from the Conan the Barbarian film. Liefeld has been a prolific comic book writer and creator since the 1980's, with his work appearing in both DC and Marvel issues before he helped to co-found Image Comics along with other iconic comic book personalities like Jim Lee and Todd McFarlane.

Conan the Barbarian has been around even longer, having been first created by Robert E. Howard in 1932 and featured in Weird Tales magazine. The Conan stories continued to gain popularity and success throughout the original creator's life, and would go on to be popularized in the poorly-received films Conan the Barbarian in 1982 and Conan the Destoryer in 1984, with both movies starring Arnold Schwarznegger as the title character. Although critically panned, the films are now largely considered to be the launching points of Schwarzenegger's career, as afterwards he went on to star in iconic classics such as Terminator and Commando.

In a recent Twitter post, Liefeld shared a few images of one of his coolest collector's items, which just so happened to be the sword from Conan the Barbarian, which the Deadpool creator says he bought directly from Arnold Schwarzenegger himself "at auction at the Orange Country Trie Lies premiere at Planet Hollywood in Santa Ana." According to the writer, Schwarzenegger signed the sword for him at the event and he then put the weapon in an elaborate frame, "where it's been ever since." Check out the images of the sword below:

Having been popularized in comics, books, and films, not to mention the many video games like Conan Exiles, Conan the Barbarian has remained tangentially close to the public spotlight since its original incarnation nearly ninety years ago. The character's influence can be felt in all facets of public media, which is why it's no surprise a comic book writer like Rob Liefeld would be so infatuated as to purchase what was likely an expensive weapon at auction.

It truly does appear to be a beautiful sword, although the decision to hide it behind glass means that if an intruder was to break into Liefeld's home he would have an extra blockage in the way of channeling his inner Shwarzenegger while fending off the intruders. Judging from the items in the background of Liefeld's image, this isn't the only collectible item he has on display in his home, although it's likely none of the others have been signed by Conan the Barbarian himself.
