Star Wars: Adam Driver Thanks Fans For Fundraiser On Behalf Of His Non-Profit

A GoFundMe fundraiser for Adam Driver’s Arts in the Armed Forces charity has managed to raise over 6,000 dollars, and Driver himself couldn’t be prouder. The Star Wars leading man gave a special thank you to the fans responsible on social media yesterday, expressing how grateful he is to see such support.

A former member of the United States Marine Corps himself, Adam Driver – better known to Star Wars fans as the sequel trilogy’s Kylo Ren/Ben Solo – helped create Arts in the Armed Forces in 2006 in order to provide arts programming to veterans and active-duty service members, as well as their families, free of charge. In support of both the organization and Driver, a Redditor at r/StarWarsLeaks named Matt The Radar Technician set up a GoFundMe page titled “Ben Solo's Legacy” to benefit AITAF. The name Matt The Radar Technician is in reference to Driver’s memorable turn on Saturday Night Live back in 2015. The fundraiser began on December 18, just a couple of days prior to the release of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. As of this writing, the fund has raised up to $69,317, just shy of its $75,000 goal.

In response to this outpouring of support, Driver posted a heartfelt video on the AITAF’s Twitter page, thanking the fan base for their donations. In return, followers gave praise for Driver’s cause and performance in the sequel trilogy, as well as the hope that he may one day return as Ben Solo in a future Star Wars project. Check out Driver's video thanking fans below:

Ever since 2015’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Driver has worked his way into the hearts of the Star Wars fan base thanks to his gripping performance as the fallen son of Han Solo and Princess Leia. Ben Solo and his villainous alter-ego of Kylo Ren quickly became a major draw even among the sequel trilogy’s detractors. Many fans were distraught over the character’s death at the end of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker following a redemption arc that ended in Ben giving his life to save Rey, who he had fallen in love with over the course of the series.

Whether in the form of Kylo Ren’s fiery rage or Ben Solo’s deep vulnerability, Adam Driver excelled at bringing such a multi-faceted and complex character to life in the sequel trilogy. The fact that he has since used his newfound fame to bring awareness, comfort, and support to those who give so much is inspiring, as are the many fans who have come together for a good cause. No matter how divided the Star Wars fan base may be over recent developments in the franchise, it’s nice to know fans are willing to set aside their differences in the name of hope and kindness, just like the many heroes of the series itself.
