The Big Bang Theory: 10 Times The Characters Probably Should Have Gone To Jail

The characters on The Big Bang Theory may seem as straight-laced as they come, but this group of self-proclaimed nerds has a dangerous streak in each of them. The tricky thing about the gang is that they're all so incredibly smart that they can get out of a lot of the illegal or bad things they've done.

Sheldon's brilliance shines so brightly that outsiders think he's crazy and don't take him seriously. Howard has so many connections at NASA that he knows exactly what he can get away with. And Leonard and Raj? Well, they try really hard. Let's take a look back at our favorite series and see 10 times this group of friends could have been arrested.

10 LEONARD AND SHELDON BREAKING INTO SKYWALKER RANCH

In the eighth season, Leonard and Sheldon hit the road for a lecture at the University of California, Berkeley. On their travels, they realize that Skywalker Ranch is on the way, and that it would be "crazy" of them to attempt stopping by since the Ranch doesn't let anyone in. They went anyway...

While Leonard was talking to the security guard, Sheldon made a quick decision and bolted from the car to the Ranch, where he was inevitably brought down by tasers. The two were brought in for questioning but could have been easily arrested for trespassing.

9 DID STUART BURN HIS OWN COMIC STORE DOWN?

It was a sad episode when we found out Stuart's comic book store burned down. The comic book store was literally all Stuart had. He even slept there on most occasions.

On the night of the fire, Sheldon was having a hard day and went down to the comic book shop where he saw Stuart slowly trying to clean up the mess. He explained that his hotplate caught fire and took everything. The situation was so bad that even the insurance company thought he started the fire on purpose for the insurance money — a debate that diehard Big Bang fans have to this day.

8 SHELDON'S LOCOMOTION DISRUPTION

After Stuart's comic book store burned down, Sheldon had a meltdown and fled the scene. He headed for the train station where he would travel to the country's different train stations. He was gone for months.

One day, however, Sheldon was robbed while on the train and was left literally pantless. He was acting deranged out of sheer panic and shock, and was running up to strangers in nothing more than his undies. He was brought into the police station to report the robbery but one of those strangers could have easily called the cops on him for harassment. Poor Shelly can't tell what's inapt and what's not.

7 INFILTRATING THE CLEAN ROOM

"The Clean Room Infiltration" was one of the series' holiday episodes. With Amy planning the Christmas Eve dinner, the guys head to the university's clean room to conduct an experiment. Dressed in head-to-toe gear to keep any dust and germs from the room, someone left the door open, which prompted birds to fly in. The boys tried their best to get the birds out but after hours of trying, Penny gave them the great idea of simply leaving and not taking the blame for it. Letting pigeons from the city's street into the clean room is compromising enough but to make matters worse, the gang left and pretended they were never there.

6 THEY BLEW UP THE ELEVATOR

This one's obvious. People can't just blow up an elevator using a handmade bomb and not be reprimanded. Leonard was playing around with "experimental rocket fuel" when the experiment went wrong. Sheldon knew the severity of what would happen if that rocket fuel exploded, so he shoved it in the elevator and watched it go up in smoke.

The elevator was broken for the entirety of the series until the final few episodes when Penny emerged on the fourth floor. We never met the landlord, but wouldn't it be obvious that some kind of lawsuit or arrest would've been made? How is a building owner okay with someone playing around with rocket fuel and inhibiting countless residents?

5 HOWARD MESSING AROUND WITH THE SATELLITE TO SPY ON AMERICA'S NEXT TOP MODEL CONTESTANTS

In "The Panty Piñata Polarization," Penny introduces America's Next Top Model to the boys. Howard and Raj become obsessed with the fact that there is a house nearby filled with hot women. The scene cuts to Howard and Raj huddling by a computer screen excited that they found the house. When Leonard asks how they were able to do it, Howard replies "I got a buddy of mine at NORAD have a spy drone fly over." Messing around with a military aircraft to catch a glimpse of hot women isn't necessarily legal, Howard.

4 LEONARD COULD HAVE GOTTEN IN A LOT OF TROUBLE WITH JOYCE KIM

Joyce Kim has been mentioned throughout the series a handful of times. Leonard dated her when he was working on a special project and as it turned out, Kim was only using Leonard for information because she was a North Korean spy.

Had it not been for Sheldon's annoying tendencies, Joyce Kim would have infiltrated her way into Leonard's heart, forcing him to release top-secret information. If that information was dished out to Joyce, Leonard could have easily been handed over to the authorities for violating several codes of conduct. Even if he wasn't arrested, he would have surely lost his job.

3 HOWARD MESSING AROUND WITH THE MARS ROVER

Oh, Howard. He uses his connection to NASA far too often. In "The Lizard-Spock Expansion," we meet his possible love interest (before Leonard swoops in), Dr. Stephanie Barnett. It's in this episode that we learn Stephanie was only hanging out with Howard because he promised her the chance to drive the Mars Rover. Penny even said that Howard made the same promise to her. If NASA knew that he was letting just anybody drive it, imagine the backlash.

2 HOWARD USING UNIVERSITY MONEY FOR HIS OWN PERSONAL ROBOT

Everyone's favorite engineer is a total horn-dog. He loves women and loves getting "freaky." However, sometimes his love for personal touch goes too far.

When Sheldon's language gets him into trouble, he sees Janine Davis in the human resources department and to save himself, he throws his so-called friends under the bus. He tells Janine that Howard used "university resources" for two years to create his own lovable robot (which happened to come with six breasts). While that may not get Howard arrested, it could be damaging enough to get him fired.

1 BUYING UNAUTHORIZED HELIUM

In "The Helium Insuffienceny," Leonard and Sheldon are panicked when they hear a group of Swedish scientists are attempting to prove their Superfluid Helium theory. To beat them to the punch, Sheldon and Leonard try their best to find helium in time to perform the theory themselves but they run out of resources. They end up going on Craigslist to buy it under fake names but panic when they think the helium came from the United States military. Although nothing came from this realization, if it did come from the military and it was a set-up, our two favorite characters would be in jail.
