Star Wars: 5 Relationships Fans Wanted to Happen (& 5 That Did That Fans Didn’t Want)

In the Star Wars franchise, there are many different romantic relationships that have been featured. While some of these relationships were a big part of the story, others were more of a side story that wasn’t focused on as much.

While the series contained some romantic relationships that fans supported, there were also some that fans didn’t want to happen. Along with this, there were other relationships that never became canon that fans wish had been explored. Here are some of them.

10 Wanted: Padme Amidala and Obi-Wan Kenobi

While Padme might have fallen in love with Anakin, many people felt like Obi-Wan would have been a much better match for her. While Jedi are not supposed to have attachments such as romantic relationships, from a personality standpoint, Obi-Wan and Padme had much more in common.

They were both also on a similar level of maturity-wise where Anakin was very young and ruled by his emotions. In many ways, Padme would have been much better off with someone like Obi-Wan.

9 Didn’t Want: Jyn Erso and Cassian Andor

Unlike the relationships in the films about the Skywalkers, Jyn and Cassian were only a possible couple in one movie as they both died tragically at the end of Rogue One.

While they never officially dated as they didn’t know each other very long, many fans felt like the hints at a future relationship were pointless knowing how the film would likely end. Plus, they didn’t have very much chemistry, so there was no need to try and give them these romantic overtones.

8 Wanted: Amilyn Holdo and Leia Organa

While there aren’t a lot of obvious queer female pairings in the franchise as most of the time two women don’t interact a lot, Amilyn and Leia were the exceptions. When we see them interact in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, it’s clear they have a deep foundation of friendship and love for one another.

Plus, in Leia: Princess of Alderaan, it’s shown in a brief passage that Holden is attracted to both men and women. These two could easily have had a relationship at one point and it would still make sense with the story and with Leia and Han’s relationship.

7 Didn’t Want: Anakin Skywalker and Padme Amidala

Anakin and Padme have one of the most difficult to watch relationships in the entire Star Wars franchise because it was so awkward. Given the fact that these two first interact when Anakin is still a kid, it sets up a weird tone.

Plus, their relationship seems immature and uncomfortable, and all of the romantic lines were cheesy and laughable. While their union might have created Luke and Leia, the way the romance was handled was corny and unappealing and many fans think of it and cringe.

6 Wanted: Han Solo and Lando Calrissian

Han Solo and Leia are a couple that many fans love, but this doesn’t mean that fans don’t also like the idea of Han Solo and Lando. These two knew each other for a long time before Han met Leia, so the idea of them having some sort of romantic relationship in their past is appealing to many fans.

They have a lot of chemistry and a good rapport and banter. While it didn’t happen in canon, there is definitely something fun and engaging about these two.

5 Didn’t Want: Rey and Kylo Ren

This couple is probably one of the most divisive in the entire Star Wars universe. While there definitely are fans that wanted this relationship, many other fans didn’t at all.

And, overall, most people agree that the way the relationship was handled and played out wasn’t well-done. Fans of the pairing were upset that Kylo  Ren died and that it wasn’t very romantic, and people who didn’t like the relationship felt it was abusive and unhealthy for Rey.

4 Wanted: Baze and Chirrut

While Jyn and Cassian might not have had great chemistry, there was another pairing that many fans loved the idea of. While Baze and Chirrut might not have been canon exactly, many fans felt there was a lot of subtextual evidence to the idea that they could have been romantic partners in some way.

One of these moments was when Baze told Chirrut that since he had Baze, he didn’t need the Force. These two clearly meant a lot to each other, and many felt they seemed like an old married couple.

3 Didn’t Want: Finn and Rose Tico

This is an unfortunate pairing because it did a disservice to both Finn and Rose. In many ways, the character of Rose got the short end of the stick as she was written out of Rise of Skywalker seemingly to appease angry fans.

The relationship between Finn and Rose didn’t make a lot of sense, especially as it seemed like Finn would be a lot better with Poe. It felt like a forced heterosexual relationship that wasn’t necessary for either of these characters even though they were cute as friends.

2 Wanted: Finn and Poe Dameron

Of all the fan-favorite relationships that didn’t become canon, Finn and Poe is one of the most popular and talked about. Even the actors, especially Oscar Isaac, were rooting for these two to be together in canon, and he even said he tried to play the relationship as romantic.

Many fans feel like the relationship would have been canon if Disney wasn’t so resistant to including LGBT+ representation in its movies, and some fans were upset that the only representation was just a background moment between two unnamed characters.

1 Didn’t Want: Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa

When the original trilogy was being released, fans weren’t aware until the end that these two were actually siblings, and neither was Luke and Leia. While fans didn’t know this, they still wanted Han and Leia to get together because they were obviously into one another and had a lot of chemistry.

And now with the information that Luke and Leia are actually related, it makes the scene where Leia awkwardly kisses him even more awkwardly.
