Geralt of Rivia's adventures are set to continue in the pages of comics. On Friday, Dark Horse Comics announced a brand-new The Witcher comic book that will feature Geralt's bloody monster-hunting exploits in the upcoming The Witcher: Fading Memories miniseries.
The Witcher originally started as a critically acclaimed fantasy series from author Andrzej Sapkowski. The short stories and eventual novels introduced a breed of monster-hunters called 'witchers' with supernatural abilities, focusing on Geralt of Rivia, a for-hire monster slayer. Sapkowski's books were adapted into the extremely popular Witcher video game trilogy by CD Projekt Red. With the series' popularity, Netflix adapted Sapkowski's original works for their own adaptation -- making The Witcher the biggest Netflix series in its first season. Naturally, it was only a matter of time until even more comic book adaptations would be building on the momentum.
Dark Horse Comics' The Witcher: Fading Memories will star Geralt of Rivia as he faces the challenge of a complete lack of monsters to hunt. Thus, Geralt is impoverished and in desperate need of a score to keep going. Thankfully, the mayor of a town called Towitz needs Geralt's Witcher experience in taking out some child-snatching monsters called Foglets. The tease from Dark Horse Comics reveals something "feels off" about the threat Geralt will face, but considering he needs any form of jobs given the hard times he's fallen upon, the Witcher is up for the challenge. Having a vulnerable Geralt is an interesting place to take the series considering he's usually such a dominant force. How The Witcher: Fading Memories explores his new trials and tribulations will be fascinating to watch unfold.
Dark Horse has previously released a handful of The Witcher comics in partnership with CD Projekt. Before the success of Netflix's series, Dark Horse had published a few adaptations of Sapkwoski's books. In 2018, they also released a comic series The Witcher: Of Flesh and Flame by Aleksandra Motyka and Marianna Stychowska. The Witcher: Fading Memories will be written by Bartosz Sztybor and illustrated by Amad Mir. Geralt's latest quest will be a four-part miniseries that begins on June 17th, when the new comic hits the stands. Check out the solicit details for the series below.
