To All The Boys: P.S. I Still Love You traces the beginning of Peter Kavinsky's relationship with Lara Jean. Their relationship is a little rocky since Peter seems so much more experienced and Lara Jean feels like she's still learning how to be a girlfriend.
Lara Jean's life takes a weird turn in the wake of an old crush re-entering her life and it causes all kinds of conflict. Peter is plain stupid at times and Lara is often no better. Here are the worst things they did to each other.
10 Peter: Went Along With The Poem Authorship Lie
You'd think Peter would have some decency to not claim authorship rights over someone else's work. But he did just that. It happens during Valentine's Day at school when he reads Lara Jean a poem.
Lara Jean is thrilled to find out Peter did this for her. She specifically tells Peter no one has written her a poem before so he keeps quiet and goes along with his lie. Later, Stormy from the Bellview tells Lara the poem is actually Edgar Allan Poe's Annabel Lee. Peter had simply replaced Annabel's name with Lara's. Though he never said he wrote it, it was pretty low to let Lara Jean think he made something special for her when he didn't.
9 Lara: Thinking About John Ambrose
As soon as Lara received a letter from her ex-crush, John Ambrose McClaren, she appeared gleeful and almost immediately starts thinking about another guy. Lara tries to respond to the letter knowing full well what the feelings involved were. This piece of news understandably makes Peter a little uncomfortable.
Coincidentally, Peter met John while volunteering with her. After her first encounter with him, she couldn't stop replaying the conversation in her head. In her mind, she seemed to be pitting the two against each other.
8 Peter: Invited An Ex-girlfriend To His Current Girlfriend's Party
Lara Jean and John Ambrose agreed to dig up the time capsule that their gang had buried in the middle school. As soon as Lara told Peter about this, Gen's name popped up. Lara Jean was very clear she wasn't going to invite Gen since she'd made that hot tub video and Peter put up too strong a defense for Gen.
It was only going to be Lara, Chris, Peter, Trevor, and John at the party. But Peter takes it upon himself to invite Gen and there's no way he couldn't have known that Lara Jean is definitely not happy about it.
7 Lara: Messing With John Ambrose's Head
Throughout Lara's time together with John Ambrose at the retirement home, she never felt it was necessary to tell him about her and Peter – and there here were plenty of opportunities. John Ambrose specifically asked Lara about Peter and Gen and the conversation about their relationship should have taken place then.
But Lara Jean never gets around to telling John about her relationship with Peter and her excuse of never having the right moment is a little too weak.
6 Peter: Waiting At The Hot Tub For Gen
Lara Jean was quick to deduce Peter wasn't waiting for her that night at the hot tub. He was waiting for Gen instead. As a result, Lara Jean breaks up with him. This happens after Peter's game, at a time when Lara Jean has made an effort to make the moment special. First, Chris shows Lara an intimate picture of Peter and Gen together with Lara Jean confronting Peter about it.
He doesn't deny it and tries to explain but Lara Jean questions Peter some more and something certainly seems suspicious.
5 Lara: Made Promises She Couldn't Keep
After Lara learns Peter indeed was waiting for Gen at the hot tub, she gets pretty weird about it. She believes that if Gen had come down to the hot tub, Lara and Peter would have never happened and she's visibly upset. As a knee-jerk reaction, she says that's how things should be. Lara tells Peter he should be with Gen instead of her with poor Peter begging her not to break his heart.
Peter reminded her that they promised not to break each other hearts. Gen cold-heartedly says they both made promises that they couldn't keep.
4 Peter: Being Neglectful On Valentine's Day
Peter Kavinsky was the most sought-after boy in the school. It was no surprise everyone wanted to be friends with him. He was sweet, polite, at the top of everything and a star athlete. Peter is occupied most of the time. He meets Lara a little late on the one day he's supposed to be with her, though - Valentine's.
Peter leaves Lara Jean alone to play flip cup, which she ends up hating, so she sits on a counter-top all by herself, absorbed in sadness. Meanwhile, Peter is having a great time. Not to mention Peter still spoke to his ex, Gen, and we all know Lara Jean feels about that.
3 Lara: Broke His Heart
Lar breaks Peter's heart by dumping him. He is visibly heartbroken after the breakup and so is she. On their trip to Portland Aquarium, the first thing Lara Jean says to is to ask him whether he wants his Valentine's necklace back. Peter had obviously come to talk to her but she acted cold nonetheless.
Come on Lara! Follow your heart! She seemed like she was more sensitive and smart in middle school than she was at this moment.
2 Peter: Took Back The Necklace
When Lara asked him if he wanted the necklace back, he said, "Yeah, sure." A teary-eyed Lara couldn't take off the necklace and this could have been a great moment to be the bigger person and let her keep it but Peter actually took it off her neck.
Peter walks away quietly pretending as if he never truly even had a thing for Lara and it's certainly not one of his finer moments.
1 Lara: Almost Kissed John Ambrose
Lara Jean and John are both looking great, it's snowing, she tells him that she's broken up with Peter. The moment should be perfect but it all feels so wrong.
It's just not the right stage of the break up to be going in for the kiss with someone else and it's no wonder that Lara Jean makes the decision to leave.
