Bachelorette: Chris Harrison Says There May Be No Hugging on Clare Crawley's Season

During a recent interview, Chris Harrison discussed the way that Clare Crawley's season of The Bachelorette will function differently and how the contestants might interact with each other in a different way than previous seasons as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

In March of this year, ABC made the announcement that Clare Crawley would be the lead of the upcoming season of The Bachelorette and they released the bios for the men competing on her season but her fame was short lived when production had to be shut down due to the coronavirus outbreak. The show was shut down the day that Clare was meant to be filming her opening night and meeting all the men, so no footage has been shot for the season and it's not clear when it'll resume. While they don't know when they'll be back up and running, Chris Harrison has revealed a little more about how the show could function post-pandemic.

In an interview with People, Harrison emphasized that whenever they shoot Clare's season, the show will be "indicative of what's happening in the world." The host says that there will be talks of the pandemic, and conversations about how contestants spent their time in quarantine, "that we're going to embrace." Harrison acknowledges that "20 years from now" when people rewatch the show, fans will wonder "What were these people doing? Why did they not hug? Why were they scared to embrace?" He continued, "That's kind of the beauty of this show, is it always embraces what's happening in the world." Harrison also acknowledged that some of the contestants may be different if and when the show is able to film, because "if you use your common sense, you have to think, 'Okay, out of all of these people, are they all going to be healthy?'" The longtime Bachelor Nation figurehead said that it's going to be "a brave new world and we're going to have to reassess everything."

While talking about Clare's season of The Bachelorette, Harrison also answered questions about Bachelor in Paradise, which would typically film after Clare's season wrapped and would air throughout the summer. For the fans who wonder if it's still happening, the host said, "All those conversations are premature because it's all about the calendar." Harrison said that before they can start having those conversations, "all we can do is sit and wait for this thing to subside," so it looks like finding love on the beaches of Mexico isn't going to be a reality for Bachelor Nation any time soon.

It should come as a surprise to no one that the timeline for filming Clare Crawley's season of The Bachelorette is still unknown considering the times we're living in. It'll be interesting to see how her season functions from contestant interaction to date choices and filming locations, as everything will have been affected by the current pandemic. Though some fans aren't thrilled about the choice to have Clare as the lead of The Bachelorette in the first place, Chris' statement definitely makes it seem as if it's a "when it happens" not an "if it happens" situation so Clare will still get her chance to be the leading lady... eventually.
