A new detail has been uncovered in one of the posters for the third season of HBO's Westworld. The science fiction series has been a massive hit for the network since premiering in 2016. Its first season successfully set a ratings record, becoming the most-watched first season of an original series on the network after completing its initial run. However, ratings have declined in the series' subsequent seasons, the premiere for season 3 dropping 57% in viewership compared to the ratings of the first episode of its second season.
Westworld is based on the 1973 film from Michael Crichton that takes place in an adult-themed amusement park where a robot malfunction causes chaos and terror for the unfortunate visitors within. The series comes from creators Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy and stars Evan Rachel Wood, Ed Harris, Jeffrey Wright, and Thandie Newton, among others. The new season has added Breaking Bad star, Aaron Paul, as a new character named Caleb, who crosses paths with Rachel Wood's Dolores. Paul has popped up in various television projects since finishing the acclaimed AMC series, starring in Netflix's animated comedy Bojack Horseman and Hulu's drama The Path.
Reddit user u/shampoo_samurai pointed out stunning new details in a poster for the show's third season. The poster shows one of the park's robots kneeling in the sand with the landscape of a city behind them. However, according to the post, this may be no ordinary robot. The user points out that the robot in question appears to contain pieces of Dolores' blue clothing on its hand and leg, possibly foreshadowing the character's untimely demise in the new season. The full post is below.
Westworld has been one of the most widely talked about television shows in recent years. It's layered, complex storytelling has posed countless questions and spawned numerous theories in its wake, particularly regarding the show's third season. However, some viewers find the show's storytelling to be too dense and complicated to fully understand, possibly being the cause of the show's fall in viewership. Fortunately, showrunner Jonathan Nolan assuaged fan's fears that this would be an ongoing issue by stating that the new season would be far easier to follow and comprehend.
The series is easily one of HBO's most ambitious projects to date, showcasing a vast, expansive world within (and outside of) the amusement park while tackling complex themes through its characters in the process. Westworld has a stellar cast and impressive pedigree behind the camera that has played an instrumental role in the show's overall quality. While the second season couldn't reach the dizzying heights of its predecessor and was a bit overly complicated in regards to its storytelling, the second run of the series finished strong, laying a promising groundwork for season three. The questions these artwork details pose have not yet been answered, but all will be revealed when Westworld concludes its third season on the network.
