With season 2 of Dead to Me having recently dropped on Netflix, it's the perfect time to take a look back at all the drama from season 1. The dark comedy stars Christina Applegate as Jen and Linda Cardellini as Judy as they battle death and deceit.
Fans now have the answers to many questions they had after season 1, which was full of juicy plot twists and nail-biting cliffhangers. Dead to Me is a certainly a fun, addictive show that got off to a great start. But not every episode of season 1 is as beloved as others. Which one did fans dislike the most? IMDb answers all.
10 I Have To Be Honest (Episode 9) - 8.8
"I Have To Be Honest" is one of the highest-ranking episodes from the first season. It's the penultimate episode where Judy goes down to the police station to rat Steve out for laundering money. Watching her show the detective Steve's paper trail at their storage unit was enough to give this "I Have To Be Honest" a high rating. The storyline of Judy draining her joined bank account with Steve had fans gasping when he found out. It brought raw honesty for Judy after months of keeping secrets.
9 You Have To Go (Episode 10) - 8.8
"I Have To Be Honest" was the season 1 finale and it left on a major cliffhanger. Jen kicked Judy out of the house after she confessed to killing Ted, and Steve showed up in the middle of the night looking for Judy and blindly confessed to being with her that night. There was only so many shocking confessions Jen could take in the span of a week.
With so much suspense, it's obvious why this episode was so highly rated. It leads perfectly into season 2 and has viewers guessing who shot Steve.
8 It's All My Fault (Episode 3)- 8.4
"It's All My Fault" showed just how volatile the relationship between Jen and Lorna was. Lorna was Ted's mother and Jen's mother-in-law. They both work in real estate and appear to have a dysfunctional relationship. With Ted being gone, her grandchildren are all Lorna have left. But in this episode, Lorna made Ted's birthday and life celebration all about her.
As an episode with a 8.4 rating, the drama between Lorna and Judy was enough to keep viewers glued. We also saw Jen write her secret on a piece of paper and wanted to see if Judy found it.
7 I Can't Go Back (Episode 4) - 8.3
In "I Can't Go Back," Jen finds out that her husband was having an affair with a woman named Bambi. Bambi was far younger than Jen and worked as a waitress. With Judy's help, the women find where she works and go to her restaurant, but the entire ordeal was too much to handle for Jen and she left overcome with emotion.
What gave this episode an 8.3 rating was the suspense revolving around Ted's mistress and his wife. Were Judy and Jen going to attack Bambi or was Bambi going to be forthcoming and leave in tears? It was a big episode for answers.
6 Oh My God (Episode 6) - 8.2
The episode "Oh My God" proved that Jen's kids were not coping well with the loss of their father. It becomes clear as the show goes on that Jen and Ted had their issues, but he was still a great father to their boys. With him gone, both kids were suffering.
The episode received an 8.2 rating because Jen's eldest got in trouble at school for dealing drugs and her youngest was having control issues at choir. Seeing Jen as a struggling single mom made her a relatable character for viewers.
5 Try To Stop Me (Episode 8) - 8.2
"Try To Stop Me" was given an 8.2 from IMDb. In this episode, Jen, Nick, and Judy are driving around town looking for owners of the same Mustang that killed Ted. Judy, however, has anxiety because Steve's art gallery is on the list, connecting them to Ted's murder.
What gave this episode such a high rating was the fact that Judy thought she was pregnant. After sleeping with Steve in a moment of weakness, she fell ill. The problem is that she was technically dating Nick, which means being pregnant with another man's baby is might prove complicated.
4 I've Gotta Get Away (Episode 5) - 8.1
"I've Gotta Get Away" saw the girls needing a break from their day-to-day lives. Thanks to their grief support group, they headed to Palm Springs for a mini-vacation with other people who were also grieving. It was a way to connect with others who were going through similar tragedies.
This episode scored an 8.1 rating, but it was a huge episode because of one character: Nick. Without Judy meeting Nick, who knows if the case of Ted would have ever been cracked.
3 I Can Handle It (Episode 7) - 8.1
In "I Can Handle It," Jen finds out that the little girl who found Ted's body also had a piece of the car that hit Ted. This leads to Jen doing her own investigation to find out who killed her husband on that fateful night. Knowing that it was her and Steve who hit Ted, Judy panics and tells Steve. The two decide to break apart their Mustang so that it's out of their hair and not used as evidence.
With an 8.1 rating, it was frustrating that this little girl had a piece of police evidence and held on to it for months before coming clean. It was also ultra annoying that Judy fell back into Steve's arms.
2 Pilot (Episode 1) - 8.1
The pilot episode introduced viewers to Jen and her sudden change of life. We see her in despair as she joins a grief support group. It's there that she meets a woman named Judy who also lost a loved one. She tells Jen that she lost her fiancé, and both women bond over their new life without their leading men.
The pilot episode wasn't the worst ranking episode of the season, but it wasn't the most lively of the bunch. It was more of an introductory episode than anything, showing viewers the main characters and why they were in such despair before the story really took off.
1 Maybe I'm Crazy (Episode 2) - 8.0
"Maybe I'm Crazy" scored an 8.0 from IMDb and was the second episode of the series. In this episode, Jen is still on the hunt for who killed her husband and is furious that Judy lied to her. Not only is Judy's fiance very much alive, but he's healthy and no longer with Judy. To get back at Judy, Jen tries to connect with Steve to sell his house.
Since this episode is only the beginning of Judy and Jen's friendship, it was one of those "less interesting" episodes that built a lot up for the next episode.
