At 74, star of Duck Dynasty Phil Robertson has discovered he has a daughter. Robertson and his family were the main focus of the show about their hunting business called Duck Commanders between 2012 and 2017. His sons, Al, Willie, Jase and Jep Robertson along with his wife Miss Kay were the other players in the show. He also recently made a spin-off show called In the Quarantine with Phil.
Robertson has admitted before that he had extramarital affairs before converting to Christianity. He and his wife, Kay, have been married since 1966, and are still together. He is currently a devout Christian and an elder at the White’s Ferry Road Church of Christ in Louisiana. Duck Dynasty was cancelled in 2017 after five successful years. Robertson now runs a podcast called Unashamed, where he announced the discovery of his daughter last Thursday.
On the podcast, Robertson and his four sons broke the news together. His sons Al and Jase both received letters from a 45-year-old woman named Phyliss, who claimed to be Phil’s son from a long ago affair. She wrote that a DNA test had shown promising evidence that Phil was her father. Al and Jase decided that her theory held water and had their father do a conclusive DNA test, which was a 99.9% match with Phyliss. Phil and his sons have been delighted to welcome a new member of the family. Phil said on the podcast, “It’s a pretty cool explanation of redemption, reconciliation, love.”
Although Robertson has admitted in the past to affairs outside his marriage before becoming Christian in the 1970s, Phyliss’ birthday appears to be after his conversion. However, his wife Kay, seems to be welcoming Phyliss into the family. Al said on the podcast, “I got to hear that first conversation with mom and it was so neat because mom always has wanted a daughter.”
The rest of the Robertson clan is accepting Phyliss into the family as well. Robertson’s daughter-in-law Korie and granddaughter Sadie both posted photos of the family posing with Phyliss with sweet captions. “It was as much a surprise to all of us as it probably is to you, but life is full of surprises, and this one is especially sweet!” wrote Korie, adding, “Welcome to the fam, Phyliss. I promise it’s never boring.” It sure won’t be; Phyliss and Robertson’s wife, Kay, are set to appear on an episode of the Unashamed podcast together. Hopefully the welcoming mood continues.
