Martin's upcoming sixth installment The Winds Of Winter, and have been passing the time by theorizing the fates of their favorite characters. Some of these theories look set to become canon soon, whereas others seem pretty far-fetched.

10 Daario Naharis Is Euron Greyjoy
In the fourth book, A Feast For Crows, Euron Greyjoy announces his intentions to marry Daenerys Targaryen and steal her dragons. Some fans theorize that the evil pirate has already seduced the Dragon Queen while disguised as Daario Naharis.
Euron would have to utilize Varys' transportation powers from Season 6 of Game Of Thrones to make this work, as he seemingly travels from Meereen to Pyke near instantly. Nevertheless, he could be working with the Faceless Men to manipulate the Targaryen queen.
9 Varys Is A Merman
Many mythical creatures are rumored to exist in the world of A Song Of Ice And Fire, including mermaids and a sea-dwelling species known as the Deep Ones. Another outlandish theory claims that Varys is descended from one of these creatures and is secretly a merling in disguise.
The premise for this theory stems from Arya's encounter with Varys and Illyrio Mopatis in A Game Of Thrones. Arya stumbles across Varys and Illyrio emerging from a well before disappearing near the river. Combined with Varys' trademark "slimy smile," and this could be hinting towards his true nature.
8 Roose Bolton Is A Vampire
A similar theory suggests that Roose Bolton — who is still alive in the books — is a skin-changing immortal. House Bolton is notorious for flaying their enemies, and this theory posits that Roose magically swaps skins to extend his immortal life.
This bizarre theory is evidenced by Roose's cold demeanor and pale eyes. A variation of this theory hypothesizes that the Boltons are decided from the Others, as a tale of Old Nan's features the forbidden love story between a Bolton man and a White Walker woman.
7 Tyrion Is The Time-Traveling Son Of Daenerys & Drogo
A popular Game Of Thrones theory speculates that Tyrion is secretly the son of the Mad King. Another theory, however, escalates that, while Tyrion is a Targaryen, he is the time-traveling son of Daenerys and Khal Drogo instead.
This theory compares Tyrion to the Greek figure Oedipus, who murdered his father before marrying his mother. It claims that Mirri Maz Durr used Drogo's soul to send Dany's child Rhaego back in time. He was delivered by his surrogate mother Joanna and raised as Tyrion Lannister, whereas Daenerys delivered Joanna's deformed child in the present.
6 Daenerys Is Rhaegar & Ashara Dayne's Daughter
Another theory concerning the twisted Targaryen family tree suggests that Daenerys is Rhaegar's daughter with Ashara Dayne. There is credible evidence for this crazy theory — Dany is consistently compared to Rhaegar throughout the books, and Barristan tells her in A Dance With Dragons that she resembles Ashara.
Another justification for this theory includes Daenerys' childhood memories of lemon trees in Braavos. Lemon trees aren't native to Braavos, which means Dany's memories could be from Dorne instead.
5 Quentyn Martell Is Alive
Quentyn Martell never appeared in HBO's Game Of Thrones, though his character plays an integral role in the books. The son of Doran Martell travels to Meereen to broker a marriage alliance with Daenerys. After he is rejected by the newly-wed queen, Quentyn attempts to steal a dragon and is burnt to death by Rhaegal.
Another bizarre book theory claims that Quentyn survived this fiery encounter. The Dornish prince escaped Meereen with his dragon, leaving the burned remains of the Tattered Prince in his place.
4 Daenerys Is A Fire Zombie
Another bizarre but brilliant theory suggests that Daenerys Targaryen died in A Game Of Thrones and was unknowingly resurrected as a fire wight. One Reddit user claims that Mirri sacrifices Rhaego to save Dany's life instead of Drogo's after the Khaleesi dies during childbirth.
This explains how Daenerys survives Khal Drogo's funeral pyre; as a fire wight, she has fire and blood in her veins. This would extend the parallels between Daenerys and Jon Snow while giving a literal definition to Dany being "reborn in blood and fire."
3 Ned Stark Is Alive
Ned Stark's death in A Game Of Thrones was a shocking moment for fans. However, this theory argues that the Lord of Winterfell survived his execution thanks to the machinations of Varys and the Faceless Men.
Varys conspires against Littlefinger, and he could have allied with the Braavosi assassins to save Ned's life. Arya thinks that Ned doesn't look like himself while present at his trial, whereas Catelyn later remarks in A Storm Of Swords that his bones are smaller than she expected.
2 Bran Ate Jojen
One of the more gruesome ASOIAF theories claims that Bran unknowingly ingested the remains of his friend Jojen in A Dance With Dragons. Unlike his show counterpart, Jojen isn't killed by wights, and survives his journey to the three-eyed crow. Jojen does grow sick, however, before mysteriously vanishing from the narrative.
This theory speculates that Jojen was sacrificed by the Children of the Forest. Bran is later given a strange blood-like weirwood paste that he is told will activate his powers and "wed [him] to the trees."
1 Sansa Will Marry Aegon Targaryen
In A Dance With Dragons, it is seemingly revealed that Aegon Targaryen, the son of Rhaegar and Elia, survived his apparent murder and was secretly raised by Jon Connington in Essos. Another theory proposes that Sansa will cross paths with the Targaryen prince, and the two may get married.
This theory is evidenced by the tourney at Ashford from George R.R. Martin's The Hedge Knight. At the tourney, Lady Ashford is propositioned by five suitors: a Baratheon, a Tyrell, a Lannister, a Hardyng, and a Targaryen. Sansa's suitors — Joffrey Baratheon, Willas Tyrell, Tyrion Lannister, and Harold Hardyng — have mimicked this pattern, meaning readers could see a Stark-Targaryen union yet.
