Pretending for one moment that muggle technology does work at Hogwarts, imagine that streaming services come to Hogwarts and each common room is able to access muggle entertainment. Cutting down on the clutter just a little bit focus on Netflix as the one streaming service that Hogwarts students can subscribe to.
What might each common room prefer? Which Netflix original series are most likely to be a hit in each house? In Hufflepuff a good comedy would certainly please a large number of students. Hard work and happy endings would also be smart choices. Here are just a few Netflix originals Hufflepuffs would love, and a handful that they wouldn't want to watch.
10 Love - The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt
No one works harder or has a more positive attitude in any Netflix series than Ellie Kemper's Kimmy Schmidt. Despite being kidnapped and inturned in a bunker for a few years she comes back out into the world with a smile. Her antics are always for the greater good and she is always working to improve the lives, and the outlook, of the people around her.
If Kimmy were lucky enough to go to Hogwarts there's no doubt she'd be in Hufflepuff house herself. Add to that the laugh out loud humor of the show and Kimmy Schmidt would be a Hufflepuff hit.
9 Hate - 13 Reasons Why
Looking beyond the complicated and disturbing premise of the show (about teen suicide and the popularity and infamy that, in this fictitious world, comes with it) the characters themselves aren't likely to intrigue the just and loyal house of Helga Hufflepuff.
What Hufflepuff wants to watch bullies and bad friends finally get called out? It's not really the Hufflepuff way. It's disturbing and cruel, and a show Hufflepuffs would very likely stay away from.
8 Love - To All The Boys I've Loved Before
The 2018 rom-com would rank very high on a Hufflepuff list. The movie follows bubbly baker Lara Jean and the minor chaos that occurs when the letters she wrote (more for herself than anything) to all the boys she's ever had a crush on accidentally get mailed out to those boys.
The movie is funny and sweet, a winning Hufflepuff combination. The movie also offers up positive sibling relationships and deeper character understandings of the world around them. Definitely a Hufflepuff movie night winner.
7 Hate - The Irishman
Billed as a new classic and a Martin Scorsese masterpiece, a Hufflepuff might be willing to try The Irishman, but they wouldn't be likely to enjoy it. At over three hours long there would need to be a lot happening to entice a Hufflepuff to stay tuned in and there's not.
The film is violent and slow and, while the acting is good, the plot meanders and drags its feet. Add to that the general lack of empathy any character seems to have for anyone around them and there's not much for a Hufflepuff to hang on to, to keep them engaged.
6 Love - The Crown
Not every Netflix original has to be laugh out loud funny for a Hufflepuff or a full Hufflepuff audience to enjoy. The Crown would also be a winner for Hufflepuffs. What's not to love about the dramatized history of England and a focus on complicated family dynamics?
The Crown is well acted, well researched, well written, and very well designed (from its costumes to its sets). Hufflepuffs are likely to appreciate the craftsmanship as well as the content.
5 Hate - The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina
Ignoring the fact that the magic in The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina would definitely be way off base compared to the magic taught at Hogwarts, the darkness of the show would also probably put off Hufflepuff viewers. Of course anyone can relate to trying to reconcile the dual natures of their personality, but not quite in the same way Sabrina is forced to.
While Hufflepuff's can certainly appreciate Sabrina's standing against evil forces, the show's focus on the occult and horror, in general, would make it less enjoyable for Hufflepuffs to watch.
4 Love - Anne with an E
Like Kimmy Schmidt, before her Anne Shirley Cuthbert would certainly be in Hufflepuff house is she were to attend Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Anne is always looking on the bright side of every situation. She is creative, kind, and yet still manages to get into her own fair amount of trouble (to which any Hufflepuff could certainly relate).
Anne is always there to help others whether or not it is the popular thing to do. She is patient (though she sometimes struggles to be patient with herself) and unfailingly loyal.
3 Hate - A Series of Unfortunate Events
While any Hufflepuff would certainly feel for the tormented and unfortunate Baudelaire siblings/orphans, that doesn't mean they would enjoy watching their continued suffering in their leisure time.
While the Baudelaires always seem to survive, A Series of Unfortunate Events seems like it would be more painful to watch than enjoyable for a Hufflepuff. The show is comedic in its own sarcastic way, but that's not really the sort of comedy a Hufflepuff will usually be looking for.
2 Love - The Great British Baking Show
While The Great British Baking Show was once a PBS show, Netflix took over the title and created their own original reality-competition program.
The premise of the reality show is that a group of amateur bakers face off against one another in a number of baking challenges over about ten weeks in the hopes of being called the best baker in the United Kingdom. Hufflepuffs would certainly appreciate the challenges, the baked goods, and the Britishness of the show overall.
1 Hate - Tiger King
One of the newest hits on Netflix would not be likely to entice a large Hufflepuff viewing audience. From how the big cats are treated in general in this underworld of breeding, to the odd and often offputting characters who inhabit that world, Hufflepuffs are more likely to be disturbed than attracted by the reality documentary series.
Hufflepuffs likely have to deal with enough cruelty and insanity in their daily lives to want to watch a show about it when they get a little time off.
