While he might be best known for playing Sheldon Cooper, over the course of his acting career Jim Parsons has taken on a wide range of roles. From voicing aliens or playing corrupt Hollywood agents, he has tackled all manner of projects and created a really strong career for himself.

Jim Parsons has been involved in major movies and huge television shows and has shown how varied he is. Not only does he work as a great comedic actor, but he happily takes on darker, far more dramatic roles as well, showcasing just how talented of an actor he is.

10 Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil And Vile (2019)

This movie took a deep dive into the story of the infamous murderer, Ted Bundy. The vile character was excellently portrayed by Zac Efron in this one, which caught a lot of attention as it was a very different role for him. However, this film actually told the well-known story from the perspective of Bundy's girlfriend, Liz.

She didn't believe all of the stories about him for a very long time, instead, being blinded by love. It was interesting to see things told from such a different perspective, and Jim Parsons joined the cast to play Larry Simpson, who was the prosecuting attorney.

9 Wish I Was Here (2019)

Wish I Was Here saw Jim Parsons once again team up with Zach Braff, which he has done several times in his career. The film focuses on Aidan Bloom who is an aspiring actor that is struggling to make ends meet. The family relies upon his father to get his children to a good school due to a lack of money.

It's a film all about family and one man determining what he wants to do with his life moving forwards in both a professional and personal capacity.

8 Heights - 6.9 (2005)

Heights is a particularly interesting movie, simply because of how it all just takes place within 24 hours. Throughout that one day, the movie looks at five different New Yorkers who are all about to make major decisions in regards to their lives.

There's focus on romance and work, and even though Jim Parsons doesn't actually play one of the five major characters in this film, he does work as a supporting character throughout.

7 Judging Amy - 6.9 (1999-2005)

Jim Parsons joined the popular television show, Judging Amy for its final year on the air. The series which follows three generations of women who all live together was a popular one, with Amy Gray being the main character of this series.

Parsons plays Rob Holbrook, who is someone that is actually hired by Amy late on in the series. He is desperate to please her in work and tries to do everything he can to help Amy with her work as she helps in family court. He has great knowledge of Spanish and that comes into play during one particular case, creating an interesting storyline.

6 The Muppets- 7.1 (2011)

Of course, the major stars of The Muppets are The Muppets themselves, with the gang having to work together to try and stop Tex Henchman from buying the Muppet Theater. Amy Adams and Jason Seagal's characters work hard to try and help them, mainly because Seagal's character Gary has a muppet brother, called Walter.

This is where Jim Parsons steps in because when a human version of Walter is needed, that is where he turns up. It's a really fun adventure with popular characters that have been beloved for decades now, with this being one of their strongest outings.

5 Garden State - 7.4 (2004)

Garden State was only the second-ever movie that Jim Parsons was involved with and it does have a very impressive cast with Zach Braff, Natalie Portman and Bill Sarsgaard all being part of the project. Parsons is only part of the supporting cast as he is the boyfriend of Mark's mother.

Mark is the friend of Andrew, who is the main character and goes back home for the funeral of his mother which puts him back in contact with people. It's a funny film that does also tackle some tough topics as well, which keeps it entertaining overall.

4 Young Sheldon - 7.4 (2017-)

The Big Bang Theory may no longer be taking place, but audiences can still get their fix through Young Sheldon, which follows the life of Sheldon Cooper as a child. Of course, with Jim Parsons having played that role, he was always going to have a role in this series.

While he isn't an on-screen character, as that is obviously the younger version of him, he does provide the voiceover throughout the show. Parsons also serves as an executive producer for this show as well.

3 Hollywood - 7.6 (2020)

The mini-series that was released on Netflix earlier this year has proven to be very popular as Ryan Murphy's latest project takes a look at the Golden Age of Hollywood. It attempts to fix the major problems with the industry at that time that has taken years to recover from.

Jim Parsons plays the role of Henry Willson who is one of the people causing problems at the time. He's a sleazeball agent who is incredibly powerful and can ruin or make careers, but he has no problem taking sexual advantage of his vulnerable clients while they are at a desperate stage in their lives.

2 Hidden Figures - 7.6 (2016)

Hidden Figures is a gripping movie that focuses on a group of incredibly smart African-American women who all help out NASA during the early days of the U.S. space program. The group of mathematicians is crucial to things, but there is also a lot of problems with regard to race that they have to battle through during this period.

Jim Parsons takes on the role of Paul in this film, who is the head engineer and is one of the people most opposed to letting this group help out. It's a fantastic film that really tackles major issues head-on, making it very interesting to watch.

1 The Big Bang Theory - 8.1 (2007-2019)

It's one of the most popular television series of all time and Jim Parsons took on one of the main roles within it, therefore it's no surprise to see The Big Bang Theory take the top spot here. His role as Sheldon is absolutely iconic and is something that he will be known for throughout his career.

As the over the top geeky character, Sheldon brought a lot of the knowledge to the series which is what helped it feel very unique. But his hatred for being wrong and always wanting to provide answers for things also brought a lot of comedy to the show as well, which is why he became such a popular character.
