Romance is a big part of Scrubs as it follows a lot of realistic characters, with flaws, work through flawed relationships and dating, outside of the Sacred Heart hospital. The undoubted IT couple of the show, and most consistently stable for that matter, is Carla and Turk. But they do have their issues.
On the surface, the pair are a realistic couple, who are pretty perfect for each other despite the troubles they may go through. However, there are arguments to be had that Turk specifically could have been with somebody else, even better for him than Carla.
10 Perfect - Carla Helped Turk's Career
By the end of the show, both endings, Turk had managed to work his way to Chief of Surgery, a position he definitely deserved.
However, without Carla, he may not have gotten it, with Cox not wanting to give it to him. With Carla's support and scary nature, she was able to get Turk to a better position career-wise, always encouraging him.
9 Someone Else - Carla's Family Hates Him, While Carla Is Like His Family
Before she died, Carla's mother quite clearly hated Turk but gave the impression she would hate any man who was involved with Carla. Her brother though also hated Turk, and that never seemed to go away.
On the flip side, another unappealing thing from Turk's perspective is the fact that Carla is just like Turk's mother, which is illustrated when we meet Turk's mother, and she and Carla act and talk about Turk in the same way. Even though she notices it, Carla never changes.
8 Perfect - They Often Balance Each Other
One one side, there is Turk and his childish ways, often cocky demeanor, and immature ways, on the other side, there is Carla, a mother-like figure who takes no nonsense, is immensely severe, and a boss in both ways.
They are two sides of the extreme, and often throughout their relationship they balance each other out, with Turk bringing out Carla's fun, more chilled side more often, and Carla getting Turk to a more mature place.
7 Someone Else - Carla's Bossiness
As has gotten said, Carla is the boss of just about every situation she is in, even at work where she is far from the boss technically.
This bossiness makes Carla seem more like a mother to Turk sometimes than a girlfriend. While Turk eases this bossiness, most of the time, he just goes along with it, but it is a big clash with his personality.
6 Perfect - They Are Committed
Carla makes clear from the start she is looking for the real thing, and despite being young and dumb, Turk goes for it and stays committed.
The two are committed to each other in their relationship and stay loyal and want the same thing from each other over time. As crazy as Carla drives Turk, he loves her, and vice versa.
5 Someone Else - She Is Not A Fan Of Turk & J.D.
Carla puts up with J.D. and Turk's romantic-adjacent friendship most of the time but certainly lets it be known she thinks negatively of them.
Turk always chose Carla over his friendship with J.D., but Carla was constantly insulting, and unsupportive of the emotional type of relationship the two had. She was right to be jealous, but she flat out did not seem to like them.
4 Perfect - Carla Sped Up Turk's Maturation
J.D. takes a long time to mature in Scrubs, and in fact, never really lets go of his immature side, which is part of his charm. While Turk still has his immature side, he was a fully mature person outside of his friendship with J.D. and could turn that on whenever he needed.
This can be attributed to Carla. Had Turk not met Carla, he and J.D. likely would have been childish and immature in every aspect of life outside of their medical work itself for much, much longer.
3 Someone Else - How Controlling Carla Is
This is a step up from Carla's natural bossiness that she displays with everyone that is a simple clash with Turk's personality, and her controlling nature is much worse.
She literally has spies in the hospital who report on Turk, which is kind of psychotic. That level of effort to control Turk is insane. She tried to control when Turk went to sleep, what he ate with his diabetes and just his life in general.
2 Perfect - They Overcome Every Issue
Turk and Carla are the most stable and consistent couple in Scrubs, only even slightly rivaled arguably only by Cox and Jordan's satanic masterwork, and one of the biggest reasons for this is their ability to overcome all obstacles.
No matter the arguments they have, the troubles they go through, big or small, they overcome. Even when it looked like they may break up or get divorced, they managed to persevere and stay committed to the relationship and working on it.
1 Someone Else - She Manipulated Turk Like Crazy
Elliot infamously manipulated Keith to horrific extents throughout their relationship, but this same manipulation accusation can be pointed at Carla for what she does to Turk.
She made Turk kick J.D. out even though it was J.D.'s apartment, and it was Carla who wanted J.D. out for no real reason. There was also the constant use of sex as some sort of weapon to hold over Turk's head, as well as that whole proposal debacle during which Turk probably should have just left Carla.
