The Blacklist ended its seventh season in the weirdest way possible. While much of the episode was filmed prior to a shutdown due to the coronavirus pandemic, they weren't able to finish filming entirely. And that left them with a decision: don't air the episode until they are able to film or improvise.
They chose the latter and delivered a truly unique episode that was partly filmed segments and part-animated footage with voiceover, comic-book style. Like other episodes, it saw the team try and take down a Blacklister with Red's help. But there was much more at play.
Whether you liked it or didn't, the story wrapped up with an ending that suggested big things to come in the already-confirmed season eight. So, what do we want to see happen most?
10 Red's Real Identity Revealed
Enough already. The question of Raymond Reddington's true identity has been central to the plot for much of the series, once it was revealed that he isn't actually Raymond Reddington. So, who is he?
Season eight should finally answer that question, even if it isn't the series' last. There are lots of ways they can take the show after discovering that truth. But it's time to finally reveal it.
9 Liz Picking A Side…For Real
The end of season seven suggested that Liz had had enough with Red's lies and decided that she was going to side with her mother, once and for all. She felt a strong bond with the mother she had lost so many years ago and believed she was telling the truth about her innocence.
Liz seemed to have an epiphany and there will likely be a lot of friction between her and Red in season eight. With his health seemingly declining, it could make for a very interesting season as Liz's allegiance to her mother is explored and Red deals with that supposed betrayal.
8 Discovering Why Red Isn't Helping Katarina
When Red was passed out, on his way to see the private doctor, Katarina revealed to Liz that she was on the run because she was accused of stealing sensitive and revealing files when she really didn't. And she said Red knows who really stole them but won't give that person up to save Katarina.
Was she telling the truth? And if so, why has he left Katarina to live a life on the run for decades? It would be great to find out what the truth is about those mysterious files.
7 Who Really Stole The Files?
As per above, it's these mysterious files that have made Katarina public enemy number one for effectively her entire adult life. And who is so important that Red wants to protect over her?
The only logical hypothesis is that the files are with Liz somehow (or the real Reddington?) She is the only person he cares for more than Katarina (and Dembe). Are they in her body or in her possession somehow and she doesn't even know it?
6 Liz and Ressler Get Together
There has been clear sexual tension and romantic feelings between Liz and Ressler all season. He is single and she has been a widowed mother for some time with no romantic connection to anyone. So why don't they take things to another level?
She risked his career to cover up a murder for him and he has kept her deepest secrets. They would make a great couple and season eight should see them finally act on their clear love for one another.
5 Aram Finds True Love
Poor Aram seems to have the worst luck with women. First, he falls in love with a co-worker who ends up brain damaged and leaving. Then he falls for a wealthy and adventurous woman who excites him only to find out that she stayed married to and then killed her disabled husband just to get his money.
It's time he finds a great girl to share his life with who isn't going to steer him in the wrong direction and will just love him for who he is.
4 Katarina Finally Stops Running
It would be great to see the whole story surrounding Katarina finally wrapped up and her able to live a quiet life, spending time with her daughter and granddaughter.
Is she really the bad guy in all of this or is she telling the truth? Is there a chance for her and Raymond to mend fences and get along while they also work to help Liz with cases?
3 Ilya And Katarina Reconcile
The flashback scenes showing a young Katarina and Ilya were so sweet. It was clear that he was devoted to and loved her deeply. What happened to sour that relationship?
Ilya is now married and suffering from paranoia due to everything that happened in his life and his dealings with Raymond. But is there a way for this man to find peace and to be reunited with his once childhood best friend under much better circumstances than interrogation and torture? It would be lovely to see.
2 Dembe Helps Liz
Dembe has struggled with so many moral decisions, in the end choosing his faith over Raymond. He has asked Raymond many times to reveal the truth to Liz so it's obvious that he knows the full story.
He was once willing to reveal information to Liz despite Red's insistence they shouldn't, and he could be the catalyst to get that ball rolling again once he sees that Liz has shifted to side with her mother.
1 Liz Confronting Red
Liz seemed like a changed person by the end of season seven, fed up with Red's lies and hellbent on helping her mother uncover the truth and clear her name. Will she finally really, truly confront Red?
The series is setting him up to end his run with a serious and mysterious illness. Will he finally fess up and will she finally have the courage to confront him and show all her cards to be on the side of her mother?
