Amazon is offering sales on a huge variety of games at the moment, with a mix of old and new titles for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Switch, including some pre-orders. For those who prefer to get their games digitally, Steam’s summer sale is still running until July 9, though it’s of course missing any options for consoles.
Video game purchases went up immediately following the COVID-19 lockdown and they’ve remained high with lockdowns still in effect in many countries. Of course, the novel coronavirus isn’t the only thing responsible for game sales. Summer tends to be a good time for deals from storefronts and publishers alike, and this summer has been no different. It’s also been a packed couple of months for big games, with Animal Crossing: New Horizons smashing sales records on the Nintendo Switch and The Last of Us Part 2 becoming the fastest selling first-party exclusive on the PlayStation 4 and even boosting sales of the original game thanks to the hype it generated.
Now, Amazon is getting in on the sales, with deals on lots of games across every modern platform. There’s no official sale page up on Amazon’s website to collect the deals, but Daily Video Game spotted the growing number of sales, which include a wide variety of games. Some popular new and upcoming games have received modest price drops, like Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Cyberpunk 2077 both getting a $10 price cut. In other cases, the discounts are much larger, such as the recent Nioh 2’s price getting cut in half or the Borderlands 3 Super Deluxe Edition, normally retailing for around $100 getting knocked down to $36. Browsing the main video game page on Amazon reveals dozens of sales on games for every current-gen console.
For players looking for an even steeper discount, there are also plenty of ways to get some free games this month. Amazon’s own Twitch Prime is offering freebies for GTA Online this month, along with a selection of free games and in-game items for titles like Apex Legends. PlayStation Plus is offering three free games instead of its normal two to honor the service’s tenth anniversary, giving away Eliza, Rise of the Tomb Raider, and NBA 2K20.
Amazon’s ongoing game deals might not encourage quite the reckless wallet emptying of Steam’s summer sale, but there are still a ton of great games available. For anyone looking to get the most out of their current-gen consoles before the next generation hits, this summer is a great time to take advantage of some good deals.
